Concerning Edom: This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom decayed?

Here is what the Lord says about Edom. The Lord who rules over all says,“ Isn’t there wisdom in the town of Teman anymore? Can’t those who are wise give advice? Has their wisdom disappeared completely?

Concerning Edom. Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?

This message was given concerning Edom. This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says:“ Is there no wisdom in Teman? Is no one left to give wise counsel?

About Edom, this is what the LORD of Armies says: Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom rotted away?

Concerning Edom. This is what the Lord of armies says:“ Is there no longer any wisdom in Teman? Has good advice been lost by the prudent? Has their wisdom decayed?

Of Edom. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?

About Edom, this is what the Lord of Hosts says: Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom rotted away?

Concerning Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts;[ Is] wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?

The LORD who rules over all spoke about Edom.“ Is wisdom no longer to be found in Teman? Can Edom’s counselors not give her any good advice? Has all of their wisdom turned bad?

Of Edom, Yahweh of Armies says:“ Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?

Edom, Moab, and the people of Ammon;

And Esau said to Jacob,“ Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.

Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that He has taken against Edom, And His purposes that He has proposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out; Surely He shall make their dwelling places desolate with them.

And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

These were the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn son of Esau, were Chief Teman, Chief Omar, Chief Zepho, Chief Kenaz,

Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because he pursued his brother with the sword, And cast off all pity; His anger tore perpetually, And he kept his wrath forever.But I will send a fire upon Teman, Which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.”

Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, each one came from his own place— Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment together to come and mourn with him, and to comfort him.

‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Because of what Edom did against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended by avenging itself on them,”therefore thus says the Lord GOD:“ I will also stretch out My hand against Edom, cut off man and beast from it, and make it desolate from Teman; Dedan shall fall by the sword.I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel, that they may do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance,” says the Lord GOD.

God came from Teman, The Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His glory covered the heavens, And the earth was full of His praise.

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:

So Esau dwelt in Mount Seir. Esau is Edom.

Surely the princes of Zoan are fools; Pharaoh’s wise counselors give foolish counsel. How do you say to Pharaoh,“ I am the son of the wise, The son of ancient kings?”Where are they? Where are your wise men? Let them tell you now, And let them know what the Lord of hosts has purposed against Egypt.The princes of Zoan have become fools; The princes of Noph are deceived; They have also deluded Egypt, Those who are the mainstay of its tribes.

Now Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom.“ Thus says your brother Israel:‘ You know all the hardship that has befallen us,how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians afflicted us and our fathers.When we cried out to the Lord, He heard our voice and sent the Angel and brought us up out of Egypt; now here we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your border.Please let us pass through your country. We will not pass through fields or vineyards, nor will we drink water from wells; we will go along the King’s Highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed through your territory.’”Then Edom said to him,“ You shall not pass through my land, lest I come out against you with the sword.”So the children of Israel said to him,“ We will go by the Highway, and if I or my livestock drink any of your water, then I will pay for it; let me only pass through on foot, nothing more.”Then he said,“ You shall not pass through.” So Edom came out against them with many men and with a strong hand.Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory; so Israel turned away from him.

They have said,“ Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You:The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites;Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. SelahDeal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon,Who perished at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth.

Professing to be wise, they became fools,and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man— and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains and his heritage For the jackals of the wilderness.”Even though Edom has said,“ We have been impoverished, But we will return and build the desolate places,” Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ They may build, but I will throw down; They shall be called the Territory of Wickedness, And the people against whom the Lord will have indignation forever.

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ says the Lord,‘ and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

“ I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And destroy all the sons of tumult.“ And Edom shall be a possession; Seir also, his enemies, shall be a possession, While Israel does valiantly.

He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon.

Come near, you nations, to hear; And heed, you people! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, The world and all things that come forth from it.For the indignation of the Lord is against all nations, And His fury against all their armies; He has utterly destroyed them, He has given them over to the slaughter.Also their slain shall be thrown out; Their stench shall rise from their corpses, And the mountains shall be melted with their blood.All the host of heaven shall be dissolved, And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll; All their host shall fall down As the leaf falls from the vine, And as fruit falling from a fig tree.“ For My sword shall be bathed in heaven; Indeed it shall come down on Edom, And on the people of My curse, for judgment.The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, It is made overflowing with fatness, With the blood of lambs and goats, With the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah, And a great slaughter in the land of Edom.The wild oxen shall come down with them, And the young bulls with the mighty bulls; Their land shall be soaked with blood, And their dust saturated with fatness.”For it is the day of the LORD’s vengeance, The year of recompense for the cause of Zion.Its streams shall be turned into pitch, And its dust into brimstone; Its land shall become burning pitch.It shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke shall ascend forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; No one shall pass through it forever and ever.But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it, Also the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. And He shall stretch out over it The line of confusion and the stones of emptiness.They shall call its nobles to the kingdom, But none shall be there, and all its princes shall be nothing.And thorns shall come up in its palaces, Nettles and brambles in its fortresses; It shall be a habitation of jackals, A courtyard for ostriches.The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the jackals, And the wild goat shall bleat to its companion; Also the night creature shall rest there, And find for herself a place of rest.There the arrow snake shall make her nest and lay eggs And hatch, and gather them under her shadow; There also shall the hawks be gathered, Every one with her mate.“ Search from the book of the Lord, and read: Not one of these shall fail; Not one shall lack her mate. For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.He has cast the lot for them, And His hand has divided it among them with a measuring line. They shall possess it forever; From generation to generation they shall dwell in it.”

“ You shall not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. You shall not abhor an Egyptian, because you were an alien in his land.

Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom The day of Jerusalem, Who said,“ Raze it, raze it, To its very foundation!”

Who is this who comes from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah, This One who is glorious in His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength?—“ I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?“ I have trodden the winepress alone, And from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, And trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, And I have stained all My robes.For the day of vengeance is in My heart, And the year of My redeemed has come.I looked, but there was no one to help, And I wondered That there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me.I have trodden down the peoples in My anger, Made them drunk in My fury, And brought down their strength to the earth.”

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans.He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them.They meet with darkness in the daytime, And grope at noontime as in the night.

Therefore, behold, I will again do a marvelous work Among this people, A marvelous work and a wonder; For the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, And the understanding of their prudent men shall be hidden.”

So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart,“ The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it,and say to it,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against you; I will stretch out My hand against you, And make you most desolate;I shall lay your cities waste, And you shall be desolate. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.“ Because you have had an ancient hatred, and have shed the blood of the children of Israel by the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, when their iniquity came to an end,therefore, as I live,” says the Lord GOD,“ I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; since you have not hated blood, therefore blood shall pursue you.Thus I will make Mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it the one who leaves and the one who returns.And I will fill its mountains with the slain; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those who are slain by the sword shall fall.I will make you perpetually desolate, and your cities shall be uninhabited; then you shall know that I am the Lord.“ Because you have said,‘ These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess them,’ although the Lord was there,therefore, as I live,” says the Lord GOD,“ I will do according to your anger and according to the envy which you showed in your hatred against them; and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you.Then you shall know that I am the Lord. I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying,‘ They are desolate; they are given to us to consume.’Thus with your mouth you have boasted against Me and multiplied your words against Me; I have heard them.”‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ The whole earth will rejoice when I make you desolate.As you rejoiced because the inheritance of the house of Israel was desolate, so I will do to you; you shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, as well as all of Edom— all of it! Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”’

Then they said,“ Come and let us devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come and let us attack him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.”

“ Egypt shall be a desolation, And Edom a desolate wilderness, Because of violence against the people of Judah, For they have shed innocent blood in their land.

The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom( We have heard a report from the Lord, And a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying,“ Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle”):“ Behold, I will make you small among the nations; You shall be greatly despised.The pride of your heart has deceived you, You who dwell in the clefts of the rock, Whose habitation is high; You who say in your heart,‘ Who will bring me down to the ground?’Though you ascend as high as the eagle, And though you set your nest among the stars, From there I will bring you down,” says the Lord.“ If thieves had come to you, If robbers by night— Oh, how you will be cut off!— Would they not have stolen till they had enough? If grape-gatherers had come to you, Would they not have left some gleanings?“ Oh, how Esau shall be searched out! How his hidden treasures shall be sought after!All the men in your confederacy Shall force you to the border; The men at peace with you Shall deceive you and prevail against you. Those who eat your bread shall lay a trap for you. No one is aware of it.“ Will I not in that day,” says the Lord,“ Even destroy the wise men from Edom, And understanding from the mountains of Esau?Then your mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, To the end that everyone from the mountains of Esau May be cut off by slaughter.“ For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever.In the day that you stood on the other side— In the day that strangers carried captive his forces, When foreigners entered his gates And cast lots for Jerusalem— Even you were as one of them.“ But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In the day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress.You should not have entered the gate of My people In the day of their calamity. Indeed, you should not have gazed on their affliction In the day of their calamity, Nor laid hands on their substance In the day of their calamity.You should not have stood at the crossroads To cut off those among them who escaped; Nor should you have delivered up those among them who remained In the day of distress.“ For the day of the Lord upon all the nations is near; As you have done, it shall be done to you; Your reprisal shall return upon your own head.For as you drank on my holy mountain, So shall all the nations drink continually; Yes, they shall drink, and swallow, And they shall be as though they had never been.“ But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.The house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau,” For the Lord has spoken.The South shall possess the mountains of Esau, And the Lowland shall possess Philistia. They shall possess the fields of Ephraim And the fields of Samaria. Benjamin shall possess Gilead.And the captives of this host of the children of Israel Shall possess the land of the Canaanites As far as Zarephath. The captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad Shall possess the cities of the South.Then saviors shall come to Mount Zion To judge the mountains of Esau, And the kingdom shall be the LORD’s.
