背道的民哪，你们为何因有山谷，就是水流的山谷夸张呢？为何倚靠财宝说：‘谁能来到我们这里呢？’

轉離正道的人哪，你倚靠你自己的財寶，說：「誰能來攻擊我呢？」為甚麼因有山谷、就是你那有水流着的山谷、而誇口呢？

背逆之女歟、奚為誇爾流水之谷、爾恃財寶曰、誰克至我、

違逆之女、居於膏腴之谷、詡詡然以為已得貨財、無人犯我四境、然爾不可矜誇。

Why do you boast of your valleys, boast of your valleys so fruitful? Unfaithful Daughter Ammon, you trust in your riches and say,‘ Who will attack me?’

Why do you brag about your valleys? You brag that they produce so many crops. Ammon, you are an unfaithful country. You trust in your riches. You say,‘ Who will attack me?’

Why do you boast of your valleys, O faithless daughter, who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’

You are proud of your fertile valleys, but they will soon be ruined. You trusted in your wealth, you rebellious daughter, and thought no one could ever harm you.

How you boast about the valleys! Your valley is flowing away, You backsliding daughter Who trusts in her treasures, saying,‘ Who can come against me?’

Why do you boast in the valleys, Your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? Who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’

Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?

Why do you brag about your valleys, your flowing valley, you faithless daughter? You who trust in your treasures and boast,“ Who can attack me?”

Why do you brag about your great power? Your power is ebbing away, you rebellious people of Ammon, who trust in your riches and say,‘ Who would dare to attack us?’

Why do you boast in the valleys, your flowing valley, backsliding daughter? You trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come to me?’

Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy.

Beware! I am against you, you who sit above the valley, you atop the rocky plateau— this is the LORD’s declaration— you who say,“ Who can come down against us? Who can enter our hiding places?”

“‘ This is what the LORD says: The wise person should not boast in his wisdom; the strong should not boast in his strength; the wealthy should not boast in his wealth.

They trust in their wealth and boast of their abundant riches.

“‘ Return, you faithless children— this is the LORD’s declaration— for I am your master, and I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

Place no trust in oppression or false hope in robbery. If wealth increases, don’t set your heart on it.

Because you trust in your works and treasures, you will be captured also. Chemosh will go into exile with his priests and officials.

“ Here is the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, taking refuge in his destructive behavior.”

By your wisdom and understanding you have acquired wealth for yourself. You have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, but your heart has become proud because of your wealth.“‘ Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you regard your heart as that of a god,I am about to bring strangers against you, ruthless men from the nations. They will draw their swords against your magnificent wisdom and will pierce your splendor.

As much as she glorified herself and indulged her sensual and excessive ways, give her that much torment and grief. For she says in her heart,“ I sit as a queen; I am not a widow, and I will never see grief.”

As to the terror you cause, your arrogant heart has deceived you. You who live in the clefts of the rock, you who occupy the mountain summit, though you elevate your nest like the eagles, even from there I will bring you down. This is the LORD’s declaration.

You said,‘ I will be the queen forever.’ You did not take these things to heart or think about their outcome.“ So now hear this, lover of luxury, who sits securely, who says to herself,‘ I am, and there is no one else. I will never be a widow or know the loss of children.’

Yet they didn’t listen or pay attention but followed their own advice and their own stubborn, evil heart. They went backward and not forward.

The wealth of the rich is his fortified city; the poverty of the poor is their destruction.

Though you seem to soar like an eagle and make your nest among the stars, even from there I will bring you down. This is the LORD’s declaration.If thieves came to you, if marauders by night— how ravaged you would be!— wouldn’t they steal only what they wanted? If grape harvesters came to you, wouldn’t they leave a few grapes?

Woe to the majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards, and to the fading flower of its beautiful splendor, which is on the summit above the rich valley. Woe to those overcome with wine.Look, the Lord has a strong and mighty one— like a devastating hail storm, like a storm with strong flooding water. He will bring it across the land with his hand.The majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards will be trampled underfoot.The fading flower of his beautiful splendor, which is on the summit above the rich valley, will be like a ripe fig before the summer harvest. Whoever sees it will swallow it while it is still in his hand.

For Israel is as obstinate as a stubborn cow. Can the LORD now shepherd them like a lamb in an open meadow?
