但為甚麼我看見他們驚惶，轉身退後呢？他們的勇士被擊敗了，他們急速奔逃，不敢回轉。四圍都是驚慌。”這是耶和華的宣告。

你們不要出到田野去，也不要在路上走，因為四圍有仇敵的刀劍和驚嚇。

我寄居在米設，住在基達的帳棚中，有禍了。

我們從前到了馬其頓的時候，身體一點安寧也沒有，反而處處遭受患難，外面有爭戰，裡面有恐懼。

我的帳棚毀壞，我的繩索都折斷了；我的兒女都離我而去，不在這裡了；再沒有人支搭我的帳棚，掛起我的幔子。

我聽見許多人的毀謗，四周都有驚嚇；他們一同商議攻擊我，圖謀要取我的性命。

他們得神的幫助對抗敵人，夏甲人和所有與夏甲人聯盟的人，都交在他們手中，因為他們在作戰的時候向神呼求；神應允了他們，因為他們倚靠他。他們又擄掠了敵人的牲畜：駱駝五萬、羊二十五萬、驢二千，以及人口十萬。

西巴和撒慕拿說：“你親自起來殺我們吧；因為人怎樣，他的力量也怎樣。”於是基甸起來，把西巴和撒慕拿殺了，拿了他們駱駝頸項上的月牙圈。

我們雖然四面受壓，卻沒有壓碎；心裡作難，卻不至絕望，

大馬士革失去勇氣，轉身逃跑；但恐慌抓住它，憂慮痛苦把它捉住，像正在生產的婦人的痛苦一樣。

那地必永遠沒有居民，世世代代無人居住；阿拉伯人不在那裡搭帳幕；牧羊人也不領羊群躺臥在那裡。

因為他們帶著牲畜和帳棚上來，像蝗蟲那麼多；他們來的人和駱駝無數，進入境內，毀壞全地。

他的家產有七千隻羊、三千匹駱駝、五百對牛、五百頭母驢，並且有許多僕婢。這人在全東方的人中至為尊貴。

次日，巴施戶珥把耶利米從枷鎖上解下來，耶利米就對他說：“耶和華不再稱你的名為巴施戶珥，卻要稱你為瑪歌珥．米撒畢（“瑪歌珥．米撒畢”意即“四圍驚慌”）。因為耶和華這樣說：‘看哪！我要使你自己和你所有的朋友都驚惶失措；他們必倒在他們仇敵的刀下，你也必親眼看見。我要把全猶大交在巴比倫王手中；他要把他們擄到巴比倫去，或用刀擊殺他們。

毀滅的消息頻傳，因為全國盡都毀壞，我的帳棚忽然毀壞，我的幔子轉瞬破裂。
