得譽之邑、我所悅者、何不早棄之乎、

斯邑也、昔為人所揄揚、所欣喜、今則棄之如遺。

可歎昔被揄揚、具有喜樂之邑、突然淒涼無人、或作可歎斯邑昔被揄揚具有喜樂今則被棄

Why has the city of renown not been abandoned, the town in which I delight?

How deserted will that once-famous city be, that city that was once filled with joy!

Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’ (niv)

Woe to you, great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’ (niv)

you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has come to an end! How his fury has ended!The Lord has broken the rod of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,which in anger struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression. I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a luxuriant native tree,but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. (niv)
