可歎昔被揄揚、具有喜樂之邑、突然淒涼無人、或作可歎斯邑昔被揄揚具有喜樂今則被棄

Why has the city of renown not been abandoned, the town in which I delight?

Why hasn’t the famous city been deserted? It is the town I take delight in.

How is the famous city not forsaken, the city of my joy?

That famous city, a city of joy, will be forsaken!

How can the city of praise not be abandoned, the town that brings me joy?

How the city of praise has not been deserted, The town of My joy!

How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!

How deserted will that once-famous city be, that city that was once filled with joy!

How is the city of praise not forsaken, the city of my joy?

And this city shall be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a glory, before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them, and shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I procure unto it.

How is Sheshach taken! and the praise of the whole earth seized! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

The praise of Moab is no more; in Heshbon they have devised evil against her: Come, and let us cut her off from being a nation. Thou also, O Madmen, shalt be brought to silence; the sword shall pursue thee.

standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

The king spake and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling- place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

saying, Woe, woe, the great city, she that was arrayed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stone and pearl!for in one hour so great riches is made desolate. And every shipmaster, and every one that saileth any whither, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood afar off,and cried out as they looked upon the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like the great city?And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, wherein all that had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

How is it broken down! how do they wail! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab become a derision and a terror to all that are round about him.

and I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called The city of righteousness, a faithful town.

that thou shalt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!Jehovah hath broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers;that smote the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, that ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that none restrained.

I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil.But one passed by, and, lo, he was not: Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
