因為你看，我必激動一班大國，使他們從北方之地上來、攻擊巴比倫；他們必擺陣攻擊她；就從那裏她就要被攻取；他們的箭如同善戰的勇士，總不空回。迦勒底必成為掠物；凡擄掠她的都必心滿意足：永恆主發神諭說。『搶掠我產業的啊，你們雖歡喜，雖快樂，雖踹弄草地像母牛犢，又發嘶聲如雄壯的馬，然而你們的母卻要極慚愧，生你們的必蒙羞辱。看吧，她必列在諸國之末，成為曠野、旱地、草原。因永恆主的震怒，她必無人居住，乃要全然荒涼；凡經過巴比倫的、都必驚駭，也必因她所受的一切擊傷而嗤笑。所有拉弓的啊，你們要在巴比倫四圍擺陣，射箭攻擊她，不要顧惜箭枝，因為她犯罪得罪了永恆主。你們要四圍吶喊攻擊她；她已授手投降了；她的外郭倒壞了；她的城牆翻毁了；因為這是永恆主報復的事：你們要向巴比倫報復：她怎樣待人，你們也要怎樣待她。你們要將巴比倫的撒種者和收割時揮着鐮刀的、都剪除掉；因怕欺壓人者的刀劍，他們各人都必轉向自己本族之民，各人都必逃回自己之地。

有可悚懼之事來到，他們必尋求平安，卻得不到平安。禍患加上禍患，風聲接連風聲；人必向神言人尋求異象之傳講，但禮節的規矩已從祭司那裏滅沒了，籌謀計畫已從長老那裏斷絕了。

你們將要聽見戰爭和戰爭的風聲；小心吧，別驚慌了；因為這是必須有的；但還不是末終。

『你們要把箭頭磨光，把全副武器裝束起來；因為永恆主定意擊打巴比倫，將她毁滅，故此永恆主激動了瑪代王的心；因為這是永恆主的報復，為他的殿而行的報復。

那差遣大使在水面上坐蒲草艇泛江海的！輕快的使者啊，你們去吧！去見一國之民、身又長膚又潤的，去見一族之民、遠近所畏懼的，去見一國之民、勢力強大，常蹂躪敵國的；他們的地有江河給截為兩半。世界上一切居民、和地上居住的人哪，山上豎起旌旗時你們要看哦！吹號角時你們要聽哦！

看吧，我必使他靈機一動，就聽見風聲，而回他本地去；我必使他在他本地那裏倒斃於刀下。」』

你們要在掃光的山上豎起旌旗，向戰士揚聲招手，叫他們進入權貴之門。我吩咐我那些獻身軍人；我呼召了我的勇士，我那些耀武揚威的高傲者，來執行我忿怒中所要作的。
