For by myself I have sworn”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ Bozrah will become a desolation, a disgrace, a ruin, and an example for cursing, and all its surrounding cities will become ruins forever.”

I swear by myself,” declares the Lord,“ that Bozrah will become a ruin and a curse, an object of horror and reproach; and all its towns will be in ruins forever.”

I make a promise in my own name. Bozrah will be destroyed,” announces the Lord.“ People will be shocked at it. They will say Bozrah is a shameful place. They will use its name as a curse. And all its towns will be destroyed forever.”

For I have sworn by myself, declares the Lord, that Bozrah shall become a horror, a taunt, a waste, and a curse, and all her cities shall be perpetual wastes.”

For I have sworn by my own name,” says the Lord,“ that Bozrah will become an object of horror and a heap of ruins; it will be mocked and cursed. All its towns and villages will be desolate forever.”

For I have sworn by Myself,” declares the Lord,“ that Bozrah will become an object of horror, a disgrace, a wasteland, and a curse; and all its cities will become permanent ruins.”

When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah reigned in his place.

The LORD’s sword is covered with blood. It drips with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom.

and said,“ By myself I have sworn,” this is the LORD’s declaration:“ Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your only son,

By myself I have sworn; truth has gone from my mouth, a word that will not be revoked: Every knee will bow to me, every tongue will swear allegiance.

Edom’s streams will be turned into pitch, her soil into sulfur; her land will become burning pitch.It will never go out— day or night. Its smoke will go up forever. It will be desolate, from generation to generation; no one will pass through it forever and ever.Eagle owls and herons will possess it, and long-eared owls and ravens will dwell there. The LORD will stretch out a measuring line and a plumb line over her for her destruction and chaos.No nobles will be left to proclaim a king, and all her princes will come to nothing.Her palaces will be overgrown with thorns; her fortified cities, with thistles and briers. She will become a dwelling for jackals, an abode for ostriches.The desert creatures will meet hyenas, and one wild goat will call to another. Indeed, the night birds will stay there and will find a resting place.Sand partridges will make their nests there; they will lay and hatch their eggs and will gather their broods under their shadows. Indeed, the birds of prey will gather there, each with its mate.

Therefore, I will send fire against Teman, and it will consume the citadels of Bozrah.

Who is this coming from Edom in crimson-stained garments from Bozrah— this one who is splendid in his apparel, striding in his formidable might? It is I, proclaiming vindication, powerful to save.

The Lord GOD has sworn by himself— this is the declaration of the LORD, the God of Armies: I loathe Jacob’s pride and hate his citadels, so I will hand over the city and everything in it.

Look! It will be like an eagle soaring upward, then swooping down and spreading its wings over Bozrah. In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors will be like the heart of a woman with contractions.

“ Therefore, hear the word of the LORD, all you Judeans who live in the land of Egypt:‘ I have sworn by my great name, says the LORD, that my name will never again be invoked by anyone of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying,“ As the Lord GOD lives.”

Egypt will become desolate, and Edom a desert wasteland, because of the violence done to the people of Judah in whose land they shed innocent blood.

“ Edom will become a desolation. Everyone who passes by her will be appalled and scoff because of all her wounds.As when Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown along with their neighbors,” says the LORD,“ no one will live there; no human being will stay in it even temporarily.

Then the house of Jacob will be a blazing fire, and the house of Joseph, a burning flame, but the house of Esau will be stubble; Jacob will set them on fire and consume Edom. Therefore no survivor will remain of the house of Esau, for the LORD has spoken.

but I hated Esau. I turned his mountains into a wasteland, and gave his inheritance to the desert jackals.”Though Edom says,“ We have been devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” the LORD of Armies says this:“ They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called a wicked country and the people the LORD has cursed forever.

therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off both people and animals from it. I will make it a wasteland; they will fall by the sword from Teman to Dedan.I will take my vengeance on Edom through my people Israel, and they will deal with Edom according to my anger and wrath. So they will know my vengeance. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.

“ Son of man, face Mount Seir and prophesy against it.Say to it,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: Look! I am against you, Mount Seir. I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolate waste.I will turn your cities into ruins, and you will become a desolation. Then you will know that I am the LORD.“‘ Because you said,“ These two nations and two lands will be mine, and we will possess them”— though the LORD was there—therefore, as I live— this is the declaration of the Lord GOD— I will treat you according to the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them. I will make myself known among them when I judge you.Then you will know that I, the LORD, have heard all the blasphemies you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying,“ They are desolate. They have been given to us to devour!”You boasted against me with your mouth, and spoke many words against me. I heard it myself!“‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: While the whole world rejoices, I will make you a desolation.Just as you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it became a desolation, I will deal the same way with you: you will become a desolation, Mount Seir, and so will all Edom in its entirety. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’
