They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land.

Flee from Babylon! Save yourselves! Don’t get trapped in her punishment! It is the Lord’s time for vengeance; he will repay her in full.

So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

When the crowds came to John for baptism, he said,“ You brood of snakes! Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?

“ Then those in Judea must flee to the hills.A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack.A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat.

Don’t put it off; do it now! Don’t rest until you do.Save yourself like a gazelle escaping from a hunter, like a bird fleeing from a net.

They are gaunt from poverty and hunger. They claw the dry ground in desolate wastelands.They pluck wild greens from among the bushes and eat from the roots of broom trees.They are driven from human society, and people shout at them as if they were thieves.So now they live in frightening ravines, in caves and among the rocks.They sound like animals howling among the bushes, huddled together beneath the nettles.

On that day a person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. A person out in the field must not return home.Remember what happened to Lot’s wife!If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it.

When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered,“ Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!”

I trust in the Lord for protection. So why do you say to me,“ Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety!
