Joy and gladness will disappear from the fruitful land of Moab. I will stop the flow of wine from the winepresses. No one will stomp on the grapes there and shout for joy. The shouts there will be shouts of soldiers, not the shouts of those making wine.

歡欣喜樂、絕於沃壤、及摩押地、我使酒絕於醡、無人踐之而懽呼、其懽呼、不為懽呼矣、

昔在摩押良田、人咸欣喜、維踐酒醡、人常懽呼、今酒已竭、欣喜懽呼之聲、俱不復聞、

在良田、良田或作迦密在摩押地、無復欣喜歡樂、我使壓酒處無酒、不復踐葡萄而歡呼、雖聞號呼之聲、非歡呼之聲、乃戰爭之聲、

From that time when one came expecting a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten; when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty measures from it, there were only twenty.

Our food has been cut off right before our eyes! There is no longer any joy or gladness in the temple of our God!

Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you wine drinkers, because the sweet wine has been taken away from you.

At that time every place where there had been a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels will be overrun with thorns and briers.

So I weep along with Jazer over the vines of Sibmah. I will saturate you with my tears, Heshbon and Elealeh, for the conquering invaders shout triumphantly over your fruit and crops.Joy and happiness disappear from the orchards, and in the vineyards no one rejoices or shouts; no one treads out juice in the wine vats– I have brought the joyful shouts to an end.

You have enlarged the nation; you give them great joy. They rejoice in your presence as harvesters rejoice; as warriors celebrate when they divide up the plunder.

The new wine dries up, the vines shrivel up, all those who like to celebrate groan.The happy sound of the tambourines stops, the revelry of those who celebrate comes to a halt, the happy sound of the harp ceases.They no longer sing and drink wine; the beer tastes bitter to those who drink it.The ruined town is shattered; all of the houses are shut up tight.They howl in the streets because of what happened to the wine; all joy turns to sorrow; celebrations disappear from the earth.The city is left in ruins; the gate is reduced to rubble.

You complacent women, get up and listen to me! You carefree daughters, pay attention to what I say!In a year’s time you carefree ones will shake with fear, for the grape harvest will fail, and the fruit harvest will not arrive.Tremble, you complacent ones! Shake with fear, you carefree ones! Strip off your clothes and expose yourselves– put sackcloth on your waist!Mourn over the field, over the delightful fields and the fruitful vine!Mourn over the land of my people, which is overgrown with thorns and briers, and over all the once- happy houses in the city filled with revelry.For the fortress is neglected; the once-crowded city is abandoned. Hill and watchtower are permanently uninhabited. Wild donkeys love to go there, and flocks graze there.

So I, the LORD, affirm that I will send for all the peoples of the north and my servant, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and all the nations that surround it. I will utterly destroy this land, its inhabitants, and all the nations that surround it and make them everlasting ruins. I will make them objects of horror and hissing scorn.I will put an end to the sounds of joy and gladness, to the glad celebration of brides and grooms in these lands. I will put an end to the sound of people grinding meal. I will put an end to lamps shining in their houses.

The vine has dried up; the fig tree languishes– the pomegranate, date, and apple as well. In fact, all the trees of the field have dried up. Indeed, the joy of the people has dried up!Get dressed and lament, you priests! Wail, you who minister at the altar! Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you servants of my God, because no one brings grain offerings or drink offerings to the temple of your God anymore.

And the sound of the harpists, musicians, flute players, and trumpeters will never be heard in you again. No craftsman who practices any trade will ever be found in you again; the noise of a mill will never be heard in you again.Even the light from a lamp will never shine in you again! The voices of the bridegroom and his bride will never be heard in you again. For your merchants were the tycoons of the world, because all the nations were deceived by your magic spells!
