But now the LORD hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of an hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be contemned, with all that great multitude; and the remnant[ shall be] very small[ and] feeble.

If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD,[ then] the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,

They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from[ being] a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken,[ and] the beautiful rod!

For the fields of Heshbon languish,[ and] the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the heathen have broken down the principal plants thereof, they are come[ even] unto Jazer, they wandered[ through] the wilderness: her branches are stretched out, they are gone over the sea.Therefore I will bewail with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for thy summer fruits and for thy harvest is fallen.

For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.

My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives[ shall flee] unto Zoar, an heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.

Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I[ am] with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.

Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.

The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste,[ and] brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste,[ and] brought to silence;

Then took I the cup at the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:

They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.

And Moab shall be destroyed from[ being] a people, because he hath magnified[ himself] against the LORD.

Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah, gird you with sackcloth; lament, and run to and fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity,[ and] his priests and his princes together.
