Mourn for her, all who live around her, all who know her fame; say,‘ How broken is the mighty scepter, how broken the glorious staff!’

All you who live around it, mourn for its people. Be sad, you who know how famous Moab is. Say,‘ Its powerful ruler’s scepter is broken! His glorious scepter is smashed.’

Grieve for him, all you who are around him, and all who know his name; say,‘ How the mighty scepter is broken, the glorious staff.’

You friends of Moab, weep for him and cry! See how the strong scepter is broken, how the beautiful staff is shattered!

Therefore will I wail for Moab; yea, I will cry out for all Moab: for the men of Kir- heres shall they mourn.With more than the weeping of Jazer will I weep for thee, O vine of Sibmah: thy branches passed over the sea, they reached even to the sea of Jazer: upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage the destroyer is fallen.And gladness and joy is taken away from the fruitful field and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to cease from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; the shouting shall be no shouting.

And it had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and their stature was exalted among the thick boughs, and they were seen in their height with the multitude of their branches.But it was plucked up in fury, it was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit: its strong rods were broken off and withered; the fire consumed them.And now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.And fire is gone out of the rods of its branches, it hath devoured its fruit, so that there is in it no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skilful women, that they may come:and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we ruined! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.Yet hear the word of Jehovah, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth; and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbor lamentation.

that thou shalt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!Jehovah hath broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers;

How is it broken down! how do they wail! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab become a derision and a terror to all that are round about him.
