“‘ Alas, sword of the Lord, how long till you rest? Return to your sheath; cease and be still.’

“ Now, O sword of the Lord, when will you be at rest again? Go back into your sheath; rest and be still.

Ah, sword of the Lord, How long will you not be quiet? Withdraw into your sheath; Rest and stay still.

“ O you sword of the Lord, How long until you are quiet? Put yourself up into your scabbard, Rest and be still!

O thou sword of Jehovah, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard; rest, and be still.

Oh, sword of the Lord! How long will you be restless? Go back to your sheath; be still; be silent!

O thou sword of the LORD, how long[ will it be] ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.

How long will you cry out,‘ Oh, sword of the LORD, how long will it be before you stop killing? Go back into your sheath! Stay there and rest!’

Tell the land of Israel,‘ Yahweh says:“ Behold, I am against you, and will draw my sword out of its sheath, and will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked.Seeing then that I will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked, therefore my sword will go out of its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north.All flesh will know that I, Yahweh, have drawn my sword out of its sheath. It will not return any more.”’

Destroyers have come on all the bare heights in the wilderness; for the sword of Yahweh devours from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land. No flesh has peace.

Cause it to return into its sheath. In the place where you were created, in the land of your birth, I will judge you.

Jesus therefore said to Peter,“ Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”

“ Or if I bring a sword on that land, and say,‘ Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off from it man and animal;’

“ You are my battle ax and weapons of war. With you I will break the nations into pieces. With you I will destroy kingdoms.With you I will break in pieces the horse and his rider.With you I will break in pieces the chariot and him who rides therein. With you I will break in pieces man and woman. With you I will break in pieces the old man and the youth. With you I will break in pieces the young man and the virgin.With you I will break in pieces the shepherd and his flock. With you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke. With you I will break in pieces governors and deputies.

Then Yahweh commanded the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.

How long will the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? Because of the wickedness of those who dwell therein, the animals and birds are consumed; because they said,“ He won’t see our latter end.”

“ I will appoint over them four kinds,” says Yahweh:“ the sword to kill, the dogs to tear, the birds of the sky, and the animals of the earth, to devour and to destroy.
