“‘ Sword of the Lord!’ you cry out.‘ How long will it be until you rest? Return to the place you came from. Stop killing us! Be still!’

“ Now, O sword of the Lord, when will you be at rest again? Go back into your sheath; rest and be still.

“ O you sword of the Lord, How long until you are quiet? Put yourself up into your scabbard, Rest and be still!

O thou sword of Jehovah, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard; rest, and be still.

Oh, sword of the Lord! How long will you be restless? Go back to your sheath; be still; be silent!

O thou sword of the LORD, how long[ will it be] ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.

How long will you cry out,‘ Oh, sword of the LORD, how long will it be before you stop killing? Go back into your sheath! Stay there and rest!’

“‘ You sword of Yahweh, how long will it be before you are quiet? Put yourself back into your scabbard; rest, and be still.’

and say to her:‘ This is what the Lord says: I am against you. I will draw my sword from its sheath and cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.Because I am going to cut off the righteous and the wicked, my sword will be unsheathed against everyone from south to north.Then all people will know that I the Lord have drawn my sword from its sheath; it will not return again.’

Over all the barren heights in the desert destroyers will swarm, for the sword of the Lord will devour from one end of the land to the other; no one will be safe.

Then the Lord spoke to the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.

“ I will send four kinds of destroyers against them,” declares the Lord,“ the sword to kill and the dogs to drag away and the birds and the wild animals to devour and destroy.
