“ The swift cannot flee nor the strong escape. In the north by the River Euphrates they stumble and fall.

“ Those who run fast can’t get away. Those who are strong can’t escape. In the north by the Euphrates River they trip and fall.

“ The swiftest runners cannot flee; the mightiest warriors cannot escape. By the Euphrates River to the north, they stumble and fall.

The swift cannot flee, and the warrior cannot escape! In the north by the bank of the Euphrates River, they stumble and fall.

Let not the swift man flee, Nor the warrior escape. In the north beside the river Euphrates They have stumbled and fallen.

“ Do not let the swift flee away, Nor the mighty man escape; They will stumble and fall Toward the north, by the River Euphrates.

He will then turn his attention to the fortresses of his own land, but he will stumble and fall, not to be found again.

The nations will hear of your devastating defeat. your cries of distress will echo throughout the earth. In the panic of their flight one soldier will trip over another and both of them will fall down defeated.”

No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might.A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; despite its great strength, it cannot deliver.

But that day belongs to the Lord God who rules over all. It is the day when he will pay back his enemies. His sword will devour them until its appetite is satisfied! It will drink their blood until it is full! For the Lord GOD who rules over all will offer them up as a sacrifice in the land of the north by the Euphrates River.

Then the LORD said,“ This means destruction will break out from the north on all who live in the land.

Many will stumble over the stone and the rock, and will fall and be seriously injured, and will be ensnared and captured.”

So I, the LORD, affirm that I will send for all the peoples of the north and my servant, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and all the nations that surround it. I will utterly destroy this land, its inhabitants, and all the nations that surround it and make them everlasting ruins. I will make them objects of horror and hissing scorn.

He is not enamored with the strength of a horse, nor is he impressed by the warrior’s strong legs.The LORD takes delight in his faithful followers, and in those who wait for his loyal love.

Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge– for time and chance may overcome them all.

But the LORD is with me to help me like an awe-inspiring warrior. Therefore those who persecute me will fail and will not prevail over me. They will be thoroughly disgraced because they did not succeed. Their disgrace will never be forgotten.

“ Run for safety, people of Benjamin! Get out of Jerusalem! Sound the trumpet in Tekoa! Light the signal fires at Beth Hakkerem! For disaster lurks out of the north; it will bring great destruction.

Raise a signal flag that tells people to go to Zion. Run for safety! Do not delay! For I am about to bring disaster out of the north. It will bring great destruction.

Armies will be suddenly swept away in defeat before him; both they and a covenant leader will be destroyed.

Fast runners will find no place to hide; strong men will have no strength left; warriors will not be able to save their lives.Archers will not hold their ground; fast runners will not save their lives, nor will those who ride horses.

I will make many stumble. They will fall over one another in their hurry to flee. They will say,‘ Get up! Let’s go back to our own people. Let’s go back to our homelands because the enemy is coming to destroy us.’

You say,‘ No, we will flee on horses,’ so you will indeed flee. You say,‘ We will ride on fast horses,’ so your pursuers will be fast.One thousand will scurry at the battle cry of one enemy soldier; at the battle cry of five enemy soldiers you will all run away, until the remaining few are as isolated as a flagpole on a mountaintop or a signal flag on a hill.”

When evil men attack me to devour my flesh, when my adversaries and enemies attack me, they stumble and fall.

I saw the sovereign One standing by the altar and he said,“ Strike the tops of the support pillars, so the thresholds shake! Even if they tried to hide from me at the bottom of the sea, from there I would command the Sea Serpent to bite them.

The LORD routed Sisera, all his chariotry, and all his army with the edge of the sword. Sisera jumped out of his chariot and ran away on foot.Now Barak chased the chariots and the army all the way to Harosheth Haggoyim. Sisera’s whole army died by the edge of the sword; not even one survived!Now Sisera ran away on foot to the tent of Jael, wife of Heber the Kenite, for King Jabin of Hazor and the family of Heber the Kenite had made a peace treaty.Jael came out to welcome Sisera. She said to him,“ Stop and rest, my lord. Stop and rest with me. Don’t be afraid.” So Sisera stopped to rest in her tent, and she put a blanket over him.He said to her,“ Give me a little water to drink, because I’m thirsty.” She opened a goatskin container of milk and gave him some milk to drink. Then she covered him up again.He said to her,“ Stand watch at the entrance to the tent. If anyone comes along and asks you,‘ Is there a man here?’ say‘ No.’”Then Jael wife of Heber took a tent peg in one hand and a hammer in the other. She crept up on him, drove the tent peg through his temple into the ground while he was asleep from exhaustion, and he died.
