But that day belongs to the Lord, the Lord Almighty— a day of vengeance, for vengeance on his foes. The sword will devour till it is satisfied, till it has quenched its thirst with blood. For the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will offer sacrifice in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.

是為萬軍之主耶和華之日、乃復仇之日、彼必復仇於敵、使刃食人而飽、飲血而足、緣萬軍之主耶和華、在北方伯拉河濱、有祀事焉、

先知曰、今日萬有之主耶和華降災於敵、雪其夙忿、使之被戮於鋒刃、飲血若醉、蓋萬有之主耶和華在於北方、百辣河濱、大行誅殛。

此日也、乃主萬有之天主復仇之日、復仇於敵、使刃食而得飽、飲血若醉、蓋主萬有之天主、在北方伯拉河濱、大行誅戮、

But that day belongs to me. I am the Lord who rules over all. It is a day for me to pay back my enemies. My sword will eat until it is satisfied. It will drink until it is not thirsty for blood anymore. I am the Lord. I am the Lord who rules over all. I will offer a sacrifice. I will offer it in the land of the north by the Euphrates River.

The Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will receive a sacrifice today in the north country beside the Euphrates River.

I will make my arrows drunk with blood, while my sword devours flesh: the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders.”

Concerning Egypt: This is the message against the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:

“ The swift cannot flee nor the strong escape. In the north by the River Euphrates they stumble and fall.

Wail, for the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty.

The king of Egypt did not march out from his own country again, because the king of Babylon had taken all his territory, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Euphrates River.

And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair,“ Come, gather together for the great supper of God,so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.”Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army.But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

The great day of the Lord is near— near and coming quickly. The cry on the day of the Lord is bitter; the Mighty Warrior shouts his battle cry.That day will be a day of wrath— a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness—

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord, for the day of the Lord is near. The Lord has prepared a sacrifice; he has consecrated those he has invited.“ On the day of the Lord’s sacrifice I will punish the officials and the king’s sons and all those clad in foreign clothes.

Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand—

It was for me the day of vengeance; the year for me to redeem had come.

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,

“ Son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Call out to every kind of bird and all the wild animals:‘ Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrifice I am preparing for you, the great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as if they were rams and lambs, goats and bulls— all of them fattened animals from Bashan.At the sacrifice I am preparing for you, you will eat fat till you are glutted and drink blood till you are drunk.At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, mighty men and soldiers of every kind,’ declares the Sovereign Lord.“ I will display my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the punishment I inflict and the hand I lay on them.

For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.

My sword has drunk its fill in the heavens; see, it descends in judgment on Edom, the people I have totally destroyed.The sword of the Lord is bathed in blood, it is covered with fat— the blood of lambs and goats, fat from the kidneys of rams. For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.And the wild oxen will fall with them, the bull calves and the great bulls. Their land will be drenched with blood, and the dust will be soaked with fat.For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to uphold Zion’s cause.

“ Flee from Babylon! Run for your lives! Do not be destroyed because of her sins. It is time for the Lord’s vengeance; he will repay her what she deserves.

Shout against her on every side! She surrenders, her towers fall, her walls are torn down. Since this is the vengeance of the Lord, take vengeance on her; do to her as she has done to others.
