Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.’”

But as for you, do you pursue great things for yourself? Stop pursuing! For I am about to bring disaster on all humanity”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ but I will grant you your life like the spoils of war wherever you go.”’”

He who stays in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, but he who goes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who are besieging you shall live and shall have his life as a prize of war.

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said,“ I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

But godliness with contentment is great gain,for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

all the kings of the north, far and near, one after another, and all the kingdoms of the world that are on the face of the earth. And after them the king of Babylon shall drink.

“ Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?Therefore do not be anxious, saying,‘ What shall we eat?’ or‘ What shall we drink?’ or‘ What shall we wear?’For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

I think that in view of the present distress it is good for a person to remain as he is.Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife.But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that.This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none,and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods,and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord.

“ Therefore wait for me,” declares the Lord,“ for the day when I rise up to seize the prey. For my decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them my indignation, all my burning anger; for in the fire of my jealousy all the earth shall be consumed.
