耶和華說：「你們用話頂撞我。」你們卻說：「我們說了甚麼話頂撞你呢？」你們說：「事奉神是枉然，我們遵守神所吩咐的，在萬軍之耶和華面前哀痛而行，有甚麼益處呢？現在，我們稱狂傲的人為有福，並且行惡的人得以建立；他們雖然試探神，卻得以逃脫。」

我們記得在埃及的時候，不花錢就可以吃魚，還有黃瓜、西瓜、韭菜、蔥、蒜。現在我們的精力枯乾了。除了這嗎哪以外，在我們眼前甚麼都沒有。」

所有的猶大人就從被趕到的各處回來，到猶大地米斯巴的基大利那裏。他們積蓄了許多的酒，並夏天的果子。

他們對神說：『離開我們吧！我們不想知道你的道路。全能者是誰，我們何必事奉他呢？求告他有甚麼益處呢？』

他們的口褻瀆上天，他們的舌毀謗全地。所以他的百姓歸到這裏，享受滿杯的水。他們說：「神怎能曉得？至高者哪會知道呢？」看哪，這就是惡人，他們常享安逸，財寶增多。我實在徒然潔淨了我的心，徒然洗手表明我的無辜，因為我終日遭災難，每日早晨受懲治。我若說「我要這樣講」，就是愧對這世代的眾兒女了。
