以下是猶大王約西亞的兒子約雅敬第四年，耶利米先知對尼利亞的兒子巴錄所說的話（巴錄從耶利米口中把這些話寫在書卷上）：“巴錄啊！耶和華以色列的神這樣說：‘你曾說：我有禍了！因為耶和華在我的痛苦上加添憂愁。我因唉哼而困乏，得不著安寧。’”

更吩咐王子耶拉篾、亞次列的兒子西萊雅和亞伯疊的兒子示利米雅，去捉拿文士巴錄和耶利米先知；但耶和華把他們隱藏起來。

於是眾領袖對王說：“這人應該處死，因為他向這城裡剩下的軍兵和眾民說了這樣的話，使他們的手都軟弱無力。這人不是為這人民求平安，卻是惹來災禍的。”

於是耶利米把尼利亞的兒子巴錄叫了來，巴錄就從耶利米口中，把耶和華向耶利米所說的一切話，都寫在書卷上。

巴錄就在耶和華的殿裡，向眾民宣讀書上耶利米的話。那時他是在沙番的兒子書記基瑪利雅的房間裡，這房間是在上院，靠近耶和華殿裡新門的入口。

人若因我的緣故辱罵你們，迫害你們，並且捏造各樣壞話毀謗你們，你們就有福了。你們應該歡喜快樂，因為你們在天上的賞賜是大的；在你們以前的先知，他們也曾這樣迫害。

他們以敵對的態度來回報我的愛；至於我，我只有禱告。

世人為人子的緣故憎恨你們、排斥你們、辱罵你們，棄絕你們的名好像棄絕惡物，你們就有福了。那時你們應該歡喜跳躍，因為你們在天上的賞賜是大的，他們的祖先對待先知也是這樣。

人都說你們好的時候，你們就有禍了，因為你們的祖先對待假先知也是這樣。
