And I will punish those who live in the land of Egypt, just as I have punished Jerusalem, with the sword, with famine, and with plague.

Therefore this is what the Lord God says:“ Behold, I am going to give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. And he will carry off her wealth and capture her spoils and seize her plunder; and it will be wages for his army.I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor which he performed, because they acted for Me,” declares the Lord God.

To Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his officials, and all his people;

Then I said,“ I will not pasture you. What is to die, let it die, and what is to perish, let it perish; and let those who are left eat one another’s flesh.”

The pronouncement concerning Egypt: Behold, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud and is about to come to Egypt; The idols of Egypt will tremble at His presence, And the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them.“ So I will incite Egyptians against Egyptians; And they will fight, each against his brother and each against his neighbor, City against city and kingdom against kingdom.Then the spirit of the Egyptians will be demoralized within them; And I will confuse their strategy, So that they will resort to idols and ghosts of the dead, And to mediums and spiritists.Furthermore, I will hand the Egyptians over to a cruel master, And a mighty king will rule over them,” declares the Lord God of armies.The waters from the sea will dry up, And the river will be parched and dry.The canals will emit a stench, The streams of Egypt will thin out and dry up; The reeds and rushes will rot away.The bulrushes by the Nile, by the edge of the Nile And all the sown fields by the Nile Will become dry, be driven away, and be no more.And the fishermen will grieve, And all those who cast a line into the Nile will mourn, And those who spread nets on the waters will dwindle away.Moreover, the manufacturers of linen made from combed flax And the weavers of white cloth will be utterly dejected.And the pillars of Egypt will be crushed; All the hired laborers will be grieved in soul.The officials of Zoan are mere fools; The advice of Pharaoh’s wisest advisers has become stupid. How can you say to Pharaoh,“ I am a son of the wise, a son of ancient kings”?Well then, where are your wise men? Please let them tell you, And let them understand what the Lord of armies Has planned against Egypt.The officials of Zoan have turned out to be fools, The officials of Memphis are deluded; Those who are the cornerstone of her tribes Have led Egypt astray.The Lord has mixed within her a spirit of distortion; They have led Egypt astray in all that it does, As a drunken person staggers in his vomit.There will be no work for Egypt Which its head or tail, its palm branch or bulrush, may do.On that day the Egyptians will become like women, and they will tremble and be in great fear because of the waving of the hand of the Lord of armies, which He is going to wave over them.The land of Judah will become a cause of shame to Egypt; everyone to whom it is mentioned will be in great fear because of the plan of the Lord of armies which He is making against them.On that day five cities in the land of Egypt will be speaking the language of Canaan and swearing allegiance to the Lord of armies; one will be called the City of Destruction.On that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a memorial stone to the Lord beside its border.And it will become a sign and a witness to the Lord of armies in the land of Egypt; for they will cry out to the Lord because of oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Champion, and He will save them.So the Lord will make Himself known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the Lord on that day. They will even worship with sacrifice and offering, and will make a vow to the Lord and perform it.And the Lord will strike Egypt, striking but healing; so they will return to the Lord, and He will respond to their pleas and heal them.On that day there will be a road from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrians will come into Egypt and the Egyptians into Assyria; and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians.On that day Israel will be the third party to Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth,whom the Lord of armies has blessed, saying,“ Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.”

That which came as the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.To Egypt, concerning the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates at Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:“ Set up the buckler and shield, And advance to the battle!Harness the horses, And mount the steeds, Take your stand with helmets on! Polish the spears, Put on the coats of armor!Why have I seen it? They are terrified, They are retreating, And their warriors are defeated And have taken refuge in flight, Without facing back. Terror is on every side!” Declares the Lord.Let not the swift man flee, Nor the warrior escape. In the north beside the river Euphrates They have stumbled and fallen.Who is this that rises like the Nile, Like the rivers whose waters surge?Egypt rises like the Nile, And like the rivers whose waters surge; And He has said,“ I will rise and cover that land; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.”Go up, you horses, and drive wildly, you chariots, So that the warriors may march forward: Cush and Put, who handle the shield, And the Lydians, who handle and bend the bow.For that day belongs to the Lord God of armies, A day of vengeance, so as to avenge Himself on His foes; And the sword will devour and be satisfied, And drink its fill of their blood; For there will be a slaughter for the Lord God of armies, In the land of the north at the river Euphrates.Go up to Gilead and obtain balm, Virgin daughter of Egypt! You have used many remedies in vain; There is no healing for you.The nations have heard of your shame, And the earth is full of your cry of distress; For one warrior has stumbled over another, And both of them have fallen down together.This is the message which the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt:“ Declare in Egypt and proclaim in Migdol, Proclaim also in Memphis and Tahpanhes; Say,‘ Take your stand and get yourself ready, For the sword has devoured those around you.’Why have your powerful ones been cut down? They do not stand because the Lord has thrust them away.They have repeatedly stumbled; Indeed, they have fallen, one against another. Then they said,‘ Get up, and let’s go back To our own people and our native land, Away from the sword of the oppressor!’They shouted there,‘ Pharaoh king of Egypt is nothing but a big noise; He has let the appointed time pass by!’As I live,” declares the King, Whose name is the Lord of armies,“ One certainly shall come who is like Tabor among the mountains, Or like Carmel by the sea.Make your baggage ready for exile, Daughter living in Egypt, For Memphis will become a desolation; It will be destroyed and deprived of inhabitants.Egypt is a pretty heifer, But a horsefly is coming from the north— it is coming!Also her mercenaries in her midst Are like fattened calves, For they too have turned away and have fled together; They did not stand their ground. Afterward, however, it will be inhabited as in the days of old,” declares the Lord.

The word of the Lord came again to me, saying,“ Son of man, prophesy and say,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Wail,‘ Woe for the day!’For the day is near, Indeed, the day of the Lord is near; It will be a day of clouds, A time of doom for the nations.A sword will come upon Egypt, And there will be trembling in Cush; When the slain fall in Egypt, They will take away her wealth, And her foundations will be torn down.Cush, Put, Lud, all Arabia, Libya and the people of the land that is in league will fall with them by the sword.”‘ This is what the Lord says:“ Indeed, those who support Egypt will fall And the pride of her power will come down; From Migdol to Syene They will fall within her by the sword,” Declares the Lord God.“ They will be desolate In the midst of the desolated lands; And her cities will be In the midst of the devastated cities.And they will know that I am the Lord, When I set a fire in Egypt And all her helpers are broken.On that day messengers will go out from Me in ships to frighten carefree Cush; and trembling will come on them as on the day of Egypt; for behold, it is coming!”‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ I will also make the hordes of Egypt cease By the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.He and his people with him, The most ruthless of the nations, Will be brought in to destroy the land; And they will draw their swords against Egypt And fill the land with the slain.Moreover, I will make the Nile canals dry And sell the land into the hands of evil men. And I will make the land desolate And all that is in it, By the hand of strangers; I the Lord have spoken.”‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ I will also destroy the idols And make the images cease from Memphis. And there will no longer be a prince in the land of Egypt; And I will put fear in the land of Egypt.I will make Pathros desolate, Set a fire in Zoan And execute judgments on Thebes.I will pour out My wrath on Sin, The stronghold of Egypt; I will also eliminate the hordes of Thebes.I will set a fire in Egypt; Sin will writhe in anguish, Thebes will be breached And Memphis will have distresses daily.The young men of On and of Pi beseth Will fall by the sword, And the women will go into captivity.In Tehaphnehes the day will be dark When I break there the yoke bars of Egypt. Then the pride of her power will cease in her; A cloud will cover her, And her daughters will go into captivity.So I will execute judgments on Egypt, And they will know that I am the Lord.” ’ ”In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, behold, it has not been bound up for healing or wrapped with a bandage, so that it may be strong to wield the sword.Therefore this is what the Lord God says:‘ Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and I will break his arms, both the strong and the broken; and I will make the sword fall from his hand.And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them among the lands.For I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put My sword in his hand; and I will break the arms of Pharaoh, so that he will groan before him with the groans of a wounded man.So I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh will fail. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I put My sword into the hand of the king of Babylon and he reaches out with it against the land of Egypt.When I scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them among the lands, then they will know that I am the Lord.’ ”

This is a wicked person’s portion from God, The inheritance decreed to him by God.”

A third of you will die by plague or perish by famine among you, a third will fall by the sword around you, and a third I will scatter to every wind, and I will unsheathe a sword behind them.
