We will obey what the LORD our God to whom we are sending you tells us to do. It does not matter whether we like what he tells us or not. We will obey what he tells us to do so that things will go well for us.”

This is what I told them:‘ Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’

Oh, that they would always have hearts like this, that they might fear me and obey all my commands! If they did, they and their descendants would prosper forever.

Stay on the path that the Lord your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy.

Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said,“ You must not covet.”

Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it aloud to the people. Again they all responded,“ We will do everything the Lord has commanded. We will obey.”

and you and your children and grandchildren must fear the Lord your God as long as you live. If you obey all his decrees and commands, you will enjoy a long life.Listen closely, Israel, and be careful to obey. Then all will go well with you, and you will have many children in the land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be!

But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my death? Of course not! Sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation to death. So we can see how terrible sin really is. It uses God’s good commands for its own evil purposes.

Oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths!How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon my hands would be upon their foes!Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him; they would be doomed forever.But I would feed you with the finest wheat. I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.”

For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.

The people said to Joshua,“ We will serve the Lord our God. We will obey him alone.”

Tell the godly that all will be well for them. They will enjoy the rich reward they have earned!
