耶利米还没有回去，护卫长又说：“你可以回到沙番的孙子、亚希甘的儿子基大利那里去！基大利是巴比伦王指派管理犹大各城的。你可以和他一起住在人民中间；或是你认为去哪里合宜，就到哪里去吧！”于是护卫长给他粮食和礼物，就释放他走了。

你们惧怕的刀剑必在埃及地追上你们；你们恐惧的饥荒必在埃及紧随着你们；你们必死在那里。

“我的朋友，我告诉你们，那杀身体以后不能再作什么的，不要怕他们。我要指示你们当怕的是谁：当怕那杀身体以后，有权把人投入地狱里的；我告诉你们，应当怕他。

何沙雅的儿子亚撒利雅，和加利亚的儿子约哈难，以及所有狂傲的人，就对耶利米说：“你在说谎！耶和华我们的神并没有差遣你来说：‘你们不可去埃及，在那里寄居。’只是尼利亚的儿子巴录怂恿你来反对我们，为要把我们交在迦勒底人的手中，好使我们被杀害，或被掳到巴比伦去。”

你们所怕的巴比伦王，你们不要惧怕他；你们不要惧怕他（这是耶和华的宣告），因为我与你们同在，要拯救你们，要搭救你们脱离他的手。

“我，我耶和华是安慰你们的；你是谁，竟怕那会死的人，怕那被造如草的世人呢？你忘记了造你的耶和华，就是那展开诸天，奠定大地的根基的；又因那欺压者准备行毁灭的时候所发的烈怒，你就终日不住惧怕呢？其实那欺压者的烈怒在哪里呢？

你怕谁？你因谁而惧怕，以致你对我说谎呢？你不记念我，也不把我放在心上，是不是因为我长久缄默，你就不惧怕我呢？

你们却说：“不！我们要骑马奔跑。”所以你们真的要逃跑；你们又说：“我们要骑快马。”所以那些追赶你们的，也必快速！一个敌人就可以威吓你们一千个人，若五个敌人威吓你们，你们都要逃跑了！以致你们所剩下的，必孤立如同山顶上的旗杆，冈陵上的旗帜。

但在七月的时候，王裔以利沙玛的孙子、尼探雅的儿子以实玛利，带了十个人和他一起，他们袭击基大利，把他杀死，和他一起在米斯巴的犹大人和迦勒底人，也被杀死。
