Then Jeremiah went to Mizpah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam and stayed with him among the people who were left in the land.

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is the source not your pleasures that wage war in your body’s parts?You lust and do not have, so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.You ask and do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives, so that you may spend what you request on your pleasures.

So they came to the king in the courtyard, but they had deposited the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they reported all the words to the king.

Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose and eliminated all the royal children of the house of Judah.

and said to him,“ Are you well aware that Baalis the king of the sons of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke secretly to Gedaliah in Mizpah, saying,“ Let me go and kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no one will know! Why should he take your life, so that all the Jews who are gathered to you would be scattered and the remnant of Judah would perish?”But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah,“ Do not do this thing, for you are telling a lie about Ishmael.”

But it happened in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal family, came with ten men and struck Gedaliah down so that he died along with the Jews and the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah.

Through overconfidence comes nothing but strife, But wisdom is with those who receive counsel.

While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading the way for them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him.But Jesus said to him,“ Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

So they have repaid me evil for good, And hatred for my love.

Wrath is fierce and anger is a flood, But who can stand before jealousy?
