Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.

Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at Mizpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

So they went into the court to the king, having put the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the secretary, and they reported all the words to the king.

Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family of the house of Judah.

And he took one of the royal offspring and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath( the chief men of the land he had taken away),

he went down to the king’s house, into the secretary’s chamber, and all the officials were sitting there: Elishama the secretary, Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Achbor, Gemariah the son of Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the officials.

I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But the Scripture will be fulfilled,‘ He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’

Like the glaze covering an earthen vessel are fervent lips with an evil heart.Whoever hates disguises himself with his lips and harbors deceit in his heart;when he speaks graciously, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart;though his hatred be covered with deception, his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

and said to him,“ Do you know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam would not believe them.Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke secretly to Gedaliah at Mizpah,“ Please let me go and strike down Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no one will know it. Why should he take your life, so that all the Judeans who are gathered about you would be scattered, and the remnant of Judah would perish?”But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah,“ You shall not do this thing, for you are speaking falsely of Ishmael.”

But in the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family, came with ten men and struck down Gedaliah and put him to death along with the Jews and the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah.

By insolence comes nothing but strife, but with those who take advice is wisdom.

While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him,but Jesus said to him,“ Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”

So they reward me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?

And when Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him privately, and there he struck him in the stomach, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family.

Even those who eat his food shall break him. His army shall be swept away, and many shall fall down slain.And as for the two kings, their hearts shall be bent on doing evil. They shall speak lies at the same table, but to no avail, for the end is yet to be at the time appointed.
