Then Ishmael carried away captive all of the people who were left in Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the people who remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

Hasn’t David sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.When they told David this, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said,“ Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”When the children of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.

You trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come to me?’Behold, I will bring a terror on you,” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies,“ from all who are around you. All of you will be driven completely out, and there will be no one to gather together the fugitives.“ But afterward I will reverse the captivity of the children of Ammon,” says Yahweh.

Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah arose, and the ten men who were with him, and struck Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
