謂之曰、亞捫族王巴利斯、遣尼探雅子以實瑪利、欲取爾命、爾知之乎、亞希甘子基大利弗信之、

告之曰、亞捫王巴勒士遣尼大尼子以實瑪利殺爾、爾猶不知乎。亞希甘子其大利弗信。

and said to him,“ Don’t you know that Baalis king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah son of Ahikam did not believe them.

The officers spoke to Gedaliah. They said,“ Don’t you know that Baalis has sent someone to take your life? Baalis is the king of Ammon. He has sent Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah.” But Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, didn’t believe them.

and said to him,“ Do you know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam would not believe them.

They said to him,“ Did you know that Baalis, king of Ammon, has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to assassinate you?” But Gedaliah refused to believe them.

and warned him,“ Don’t you realize that Baalis, king of the Ammonites, has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to kill you?” But Gedaliah son of Ahikam would not believe them.

and said to him,“ Are you well aware that Baalis the king of the sons of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.

and said to him,“ Do you certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to murder you?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.

and said unto him, Dost thou know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take thy life? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

They said to him,“ Are you at all aware that King Baalis of Ammon has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to kill you?” But Gedaliah son of Ahikam would not believe them.

and said to him,“ Do you know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam didn’t believe them.

此後，亞捫人的王死了，他的兒子哈嫩接替他作王。大衛說：「我要以恩慈對待納哈什的兒子哈嫩，就像他父親曾以恩慈對待我那樣。」於是大衛為哈嫩喪父一事派遣臣僕，藉著他們安慰他。大衛的臣僕來到亞捫人之地，但亞捫人的首領對他們的主哈嫩說：「你以為大衛是尊敬你父親，所以派人來安慰你嗎？大衛派遣臣僕來見你，難道不是為了探查這城，好窺探、傾覆它嗎？」哈嫩就抓住大衛的臣僕，把他們的鬍鬚剃掉一半，又把他們的衣服從臀部以下割去一半，然後放他們走。有人向大衛報告，大衛就派人去迎接他們，因為這些人受了極大的羞辱。王說：「你們可以住在耶利哥，等鬍鬚長好了再回來。」亞捫人知道大衛厭惡他們，就派人雇用伯利合的亞蘭人和瑣巴的亞蘭人步兵兩萬，還有瑪迦王的一千人，以及陀伯人一萬兩千。

亞捫人納哈什上來，對著基列-雅比紮營。全體雅比人就對納哈什說：「求你與我們立約，我們就服事你。」但亞捫人納哈什對他們說：「我會以這條件與你們立約：剜出你們每個人的右眼，使全以色列蒙受恥辱。」雅比的長老們回應他：「請寬限我們七天，讓我們派遣使者到以色列全境，如果沒有人拯救我們，我們就出來歸順你。」

不做不合宜的事，不求自己的益處，不輕易動怒，不計算人的惡，不為不義歡喜，而與真理同樂；凡事包容，凡事相信，凡事盼望，凡事忍耐。

惡人雖被恩待，也不學公義；他在正直之地仍行事不義，也不看耶和華的威嚴。

火熱的嘴配邪惡的心，就像銀渣包在瓦器上。懷恨人的，用言語掩飾自己，心裡卻存著詭詐。他說的再好聽，也不要相信他，因為他的心裡有七樣可憎之事。他的怨恨雖用欺瞞掩蓋，但他的邪惡必在會眾裡被揭露。
