“ When this happens,” says the LORD,“ the king and his officials will lose their courage. The priests will be struck with horror, and the prophets will be speechless in astonishment.”

“ In that day,” declares the Lord,“ the king and the officials will lose heart, the priests will be horrified, and the prophets will be appalled.”

“ A dark day is coming,” announces the Lord.“ The king and his officials will lose hope. The priests will be shocked. And the prophets will be terrified.”

“ In that day, declares the Lord, courage shall fail both king and officials. The priests shall be appalled and the prophets astounded.”

“ In that day,” says the Lord,“ the king and the officials will tremble in fear. The priests will be struck with horror, and the prophets will be appalled.”

“ On that day”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ the king and the officials will lose their courage. The priests will tremble in fear, and the prophets will be scared speechless.”

“ And it shall come about on that day,” declares the Lord,“ that the heart of the king and the hearts of the leaders will fail; and the priests will tremble, and the prophets will be astonished.”

“ And it shall come to pass in that day,” says the Lord,“ That the heart of the king shall perish, And the heart of the princes; The priests shall be astonished, And the prophets shall wonder.”

And it shall come to pass at that day, saith Jehovah, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

“ On that day”— this is the Lord’s declaration—“ the king and the officials will lose their courage. The priests will tremble in fear, and the prophets will be scared speechless.”

All your leaders ran away together– they fled to a distant place; all your refugees were captured together– they were captured without a single arrow being shot.So I say:“ Don’t look at me! I am weeping bitterly. Don’t try to console me concerning the destruction of my defenseless people.”For the sovereign master, the LORD who commands armies, has planned a day of panic, defeat, and confusion. In the Valley of Vision people shout and cry out to the hill.

My hand will be against the prophets who see delusion and announce lying omens. They will not be included in the council of my people, nor be written in the registry of the house of Israel, nor enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the sovereign LORD.“‘ This is because they have led my people astray saying,“ All is well,” when things are not well. When anyone builds a wall without mortar, they coat it with whitewash.Tell the ones who coat it with whitewash that it will fall. When there is a deluge of rain, hailstones will fall and a violent wind will break out.When the wall has collapsed, people will ask you,“ Where is the whitewash you coated it with?”“‘ Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: In my rage I will make a violent wind break out. In my anger there will be a deluge of rain and hailstones in destructive fury.I will break down the wall you coated with whitewash and knock it to the ground so that its foundation is exposed. When it falls you will be destroyed beneath it, and you will know that I am the LORD.I will vent my rage against the wall, and against those who coated it with whitewash. Then I will say to you,“ The wall is no more and those who whitewashed it are no more–those prophets of Israel who would prophesy about Jerusalem and would see visions of peace for it, when there was no peace,” declares the sovereign LORD.’

You will be shocked and amazed! You are totally blind! They are drunk, but not because of wine; they stagger, but not because of beer.For the LORD has poured out on you a strong urge to sleep deeply. He has shut your eyes( the prophets), and covered your heads( the seers).

Where now are the prophets who prophesied to you that the king of Babylon would not attack you or this land?

They broke through the city walls, and all the soldiers tried to escape. They left the city during the night. They went through the gate between the two walls that is near the king’s garden.( The Babylonians had the city surrounded.) Then they headed for the Jordan Valley.

In the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him about these matters. He had a stroke and was paralyzed.After about ten days the LORD struck Nabal down and he died.

When King Zedekiah of Judah and all his soldiers saw them, they tried to escape. They departed from the city during the night. They took a path through the king’s garden and passed out through the gate between the two walls. Then they headed for the Jordan Valley.But the Babylonian army chased after them. They caught up with Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho and captured him. They took him to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon at Riblah in the territory of Hamath and Nebuchadnezzar passed sentence on him there.

The Egyptians will panic, and I will confuse their strategy. They will seek guidance from the idols and from the spirits of the dead, from the pits used to conjure up underworld spirits, and from the magicians.

‘ Look, you scoffers; be amazed and perish! For I am doing a work in your days, a work you would never believe, even if someone tells you.’”

“ That is because, from the least important to the most important of them, all of them are greedy for dishonest gain. Prophets and priests alike, all of them practice deceit.They offer only superficial help for the harm my people have suffered. They say,‘ Everything will be all right!’ But everything is not all right!

For this reason my stomach churns; cramps overwhelm me like the contractions of a woman in labor. I am disturbed by what I hear, horrified by what I see.My heart palpitates, I shake in fear; the twilight I desired has brought me terror.

The officials of Zoan are nothing but fools; Pharaoh’s wise advisers give stupid advice. How dare you say to Pharaoh,“ I am one of the sages, one well-versed in the writings of the ancient kings?”But where, oh where, are your wise men? Let them tell you, let them find out what the LORD who commands armies has planned for Egypt.

My heart is parched and withered like grass, for I am unable to eat food.

The prophets prophesy lies. The priests exercise power by their own authority. And my people love to have it this way. But they will not be able to help you when the time of judgment comes!

At that time the Egyptians will be like women. They will tremble and fear because the LORD who commands armies brandishes his fist against them.
