I looked, and behold, the fruitful land was a desert, and all its cities were laid in ruins before the Lord, before his fierce anger.

良田荒蕪、城邑傾圮、蓋耶和華涖臨、其怒殊烈。

見良田荒蕪、其諸城邑傾圮於主前、皆因主之烈怒、

I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert; all its towns lay in ruins before the Lord, before his fierce anger.

I looked. And the fruitful land had become a desert. All its towns were destroyed. The Lord had done all this because of his great anger.

I looked, and the fertile fields had become a wilderness. The towns lay in ruins, crushed by the Lord’s fierce anger.

I looked, and the fertile field was a wilderness. All its cities were torn down because of the LORD and his burning anger.

I looked, and behold, the fruitful land was a wilderness, And all its cities were pulled down Before the Lord, before His fierce anger.

I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land was a wilderness, And all its cities were broken down At the presence of the Lord, By His fierce anger.

The Lord of hosts has sworn in my hearing:“ Surely many houses shall be desolate, large and beautiful houses, without inhabitant.For ten acres of vineyard shall yield but one bath, and a homer of seed shall yield but an ephah.”

In that day the Lord will shave with a razor that is hired beyond the River— with the king of Assyria— the head and the hair of the feet, and it will sweep away the beard also.In that day a man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep,and because of the abundance of milk that they give, he will eat curds, for everyone who is left in the land will eat curds and honey.In that day every place where there used to be a thousand vines, worth a thousand shekels of silver, will become briers and thorns.With bow and arrows a man will come there, for all the land will be briers and thorns.And as for all the hills that used to be hoed with a hoe, you will not come there for fear of briers and thorns, but they will become a place where cattle are let loose and where sheep tread.

the whole land burned out with brimstone and salt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, an overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger and wrath—all the nations will say,‘ Why has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused the heat of this great anger?’Then people will say,‘ It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them.Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, bringing upon it all the curses written in this book,and the Lord uprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and cast them into another land, as they are this day.’

“ Judah mourns, and her gates languish; her people lament on the ground, and the cry of Jerusalem goes up.Her nobles send their servants for water; they come to the cisterns; they find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are ashamed and confounded and cover their heads.Because of the ground that is dismayed, since there is no rain on the land, the farmers are ashamed; they cover their heads.Even the doe in the field forsakes her newborn fawn because there is no grass.The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights; they pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail because there is no vegetation.

But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused?

How long will the land mourn and the grass of every field wither? For the evil of those who dwell in it the beasts and the birds are swept away, because they said,“ He will not see our latter end.”
