I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful field was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of Jehovah, and before his fierce anger.

良田荒蕪、城邑傾圮、蓋耶和華涖臨、其怒殊烈。

見良田荒蕪、其諸城邑傾圮於主前、皆因主之烈怒、

I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert; all its towns lay in ruins before the Lord, before his fierce anger.

I looked. And the fruitful land had become a desert. All its towns were destroyed. The Lord had done all this because of his great anger.

I looked, and behold, the fruitful land was a desert, and all its cities were laid in ruins before the Lord, before his fierce anger.

I looked, and the fertile fields had become a wilderness. The towns lay in ruins, crushed by the Lord’s fierce anger.

and that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and a burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Jehovah overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:even all the nations shall say, Wherefore hath Jehovah done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?Then men shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of Jehovah, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,and went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods that they knew not, and that he had not given unto them:therefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book;and Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.

Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish, they sit in black upon the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.And their nobles send their little ones to the waters: they come to the cisterns, and find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are put to shame and confounded, and cover their heads.Because of the ground which is cracked, for that no rain hath been in the land, the plowmen are put to shame, they cover their heads.Yea, the hind also in the field calveth, and forsaketh her young, because there is no grass.And the wild asses stand on the bare heights, they pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage.

Thou, even thou, art to be feared; And who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?

How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? for the wickedness of them that dwell therein, the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our latter end.
