“ Go and speak to Ebed melech the Ethiopian, saying,‘ This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:“ Behold, I am going to bring My words on this city for disaster and not for prosperity; and they will take place before you on that day.

往告古實人以伯米勒云、萬有之主以色列族之上帝耶和華云、我言降災於斯邑、必有效驗、俾爾目睹、

萬有之主以色列之天主如是云、我言降災不降福於斯邑、必有效驗、使爾目睹、

“ Go and tell Ebed- Melek the Cushite,‘ This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am about to fulfill my words against this city— words concerning disaster, not prosperity. At that time they will be fulfilled before your eyes.

“ Go. Speak to Ebed- Melek the Cushite. Tell him,‘ The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says,“ I am about to make the words I spoke against this city come true. I will not give success to it. Instead, I will bring horrible trouble on it. At that time my words will come true. You will see it with your own eyes.

“ Go, and say to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will fulfill my words against this city for harm and not for good, and they shall be accomplished before you on that day.

“ Say to Ebed melech the Ethiopian,‘ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: I will do to this city everything I have threatened. I will send disaster, not prosperity. You will see its destruction,

“ Go tell Ebed-melech the Cushite,‘ This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am about to fulfill my words for disaster and not for good against this city. They will take place before your eyes on that day.

“ Go and speak to Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, saying,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:“ Behold, I will bring My words upon this city for adversity and not for good, and they shall be performed in that day before you.

Go, and speak to Ebed- melech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished before thee in that day.

“ Go tell Ebed-melech the Cushite: This is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am about to fulfill My words for harm and not for good against this city. They will take place before your eyes on that day.

Go and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be[ accomplished] in that day before thee.

“ Go and tell Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian,‘ The LORD God of Israel who rules over all says,“ I will carry out against this city what I promised. It will mean disaster and not good fortune for it. When that disaster happens, you will be there to see it.

“ Go, and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying,‘ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says:“ Behold, I will bring my words on this city for evil, and not for good; and they will be accomplished before you in that day.

So He has confirmed His words which He had spoken against us and against our rulers who ruled us, to bring on us great disaster; for under the entire heaven there has not been done anything like what was done in Jerusalem.

But did My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, not overtake your fathers? Then they repented and said,‘ Just as the Lord of armies planned to do to us in accordance with our ways and our deeds, so He has dealt with us.’ ” ’ ”

to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days of its desolation it kept the Sabbath until seventy years were complete.

Indeed, there was also a man who used to prophesy in the name of the Lord, Uriah the son of Shemaiah from Kiriath jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land words similar to all those of Jeremiah.

Behold, I am going to give a command,’ declares the Lord,‘ and I will bring them back to this city, and they will fight against it and take it and burn it with fire; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without inhabitant.’ ”

‘ But like the bad figs which cannot be eaten due to rottenness,’ indeed, this is what the Lord says,‘ so will I give up Zedekiah king of Judah and his officials, and the remnant of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and the ones who live in the land of Egypt.I will make them an object of terror and an evil for all the kingdoms of the earth, as a disgrace and a proverb, a taunt and a curse in all the places where I will scatter them.And I will send the sword, the famine, and the plague upon them until they are eliminated from the land which I gave to them and their forefathers.’ ”

“ Now behold, today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of all the good words which the Lord your God spoke concerning you has failed; they all have been fulfilled for you, not one of them has failed.But it will come about that just as all the good words which the Lord your God spoke to you have come upon you, so the Lord will bring upon you all the warnings, until He has eliminated you from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.

“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and say to him,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Behold, I am handing this city over to the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire.And as for you, you will not escape from his hand, for you will assuredly be caught and handed over to him; and you will see the king of Babylon eye to eye, and he will speak with you face to face, and you will go to Babylon.’ ” ’

Therefore this is what the Lord says, the God of armies, the God of Israel:‘ Behold, I am bringing on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the disaster that I have pronounced against them; because I spoke to them but they did not listen, and I have called them but they did not answer.’ ”

“ Micah of Moresheth used to prophesy in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying,‘ This is what the Lord of armies has said:“ Zion will be plowed like a field, And Jerusalem will become heaps of ruins, And the mountain of the house like the high places of a forest.” ’

And my eye has looked at my enemies, My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.

Therefore this is what the Lord says:“ Behold, I am going to hand this city over to the Chaldeans and to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will take it.And the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will enter and set this city on fire and burn it, with the houses where people have offered incense to Baal on their roofs and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke Me to anger.

Therefore, this is what the Lord, the God of armies says:“ Because you have spoken this word, Behold, I am making My words fire in your mouth, And this people wood, and it will consume them.

and say to them,‘ This is what the Lord of armies says:“ To the same extent I will break this people and this city, just as one breaks a potter’s vessel, which cannot again be repaired; and they will bury their dead in Topheth, because there is no other place for burial.This is how I will treat this place and its inhabitants,” declares the Lord,“ so as to make this city like Topheth.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

But Ebed melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, while he was in the king’s palace, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the cistern. Now the king was sitting at the Gate of Benjamin;and Ebed melech went out from the king’s palace and spoke to the king, saying,“ My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet whom they have thrown into the cistern; and he will die right where he is because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city.”Then the king commanded Ebed melech the Ethiopian, saying,“ Take thirty men from here under your authority and bring Jeremiah the prophet up from the cistern before he dies.”So Ebed melech took the men under his authority and went into the king’s palace to a place beneath the storeroom, and took from there worn out clothes and worn out rags, and let them down by ropes into the cistern to Jeremiah.Then Ebed melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah,“ Now put these worn out clothes and rags under your armpits under the ropes”; and Jeremiah did so.So they pulled Jeremiah out with the ropes and lifted him out of the cistern, and Jeremiah stayed in the courtyard of the guardhouse.

I will also punish him, his descendants, and his servants for their wrongdoing, and I will bring on them and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the people of Judah all the disaster that I have declared to them— but they did not listen.” ’ ”

Then afterward,” declares the Lord,“ I will hand Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants, and the people, that is, those who survive in this city from the plague, the sword, and the famine, over to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to their enemies, and to those who seek their lives; and he will strike and kill them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them nor have pity nor compassion.” ’“ You shall also say to this people,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ Behold, I am setting before you the way of life and the way of death.Anyone who stays in this city will die by the sword, by famine, or by plague; but anyone who leaves and goes over to the Chaldeans who are besieging you will live, and he will have his own life as plunder.For I have set My face against this city for harm and not for good,” declares the Lord.“ It will be handed over to the king of Babylon and he will burn it with fire.” ’

Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city and its inhabitants; for truly the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words so that you hear them.”

Those who escape the sword will return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah few in number. Then all the remnant of Judah who have gone to the land of Egypt to reside there will know whose word will stand, Mine or theirs.And this will be the sign to you,’ declares the Lord,‘ that I am going to punish you in this place, so that you may know that My words will assuredly stand against you for harm.’

You will only look on with your eyes And see the retaliation against the wicked.For you have made the Lord, my refuge, The Most High, your dwelling place.
