“ Your royal Majesty, those men have been very wicked in all that they have done to the prophet Jeremiah. They have thrown him into a cistern and he is sure to die of starvation there because there is no food left in the city.

“主我的王啊，这些人向先知耶利米一味地行恶，将他下在牢狱中；他在那里必因饥饿而死，因为城中再没有粮食。”

我主我王歟、彼眾於先知耶利米、所行皆惡、下之於井、邑中乏糧、恐其因饑而死焉、

我王與、我主與、有人作不端、下先知耶利米於眢井、在邑內食且無餅、況在井中、有不饑而死乎。

我主我王、今邑中絕糧、先知耶利米在獄院原居之處、已幾乎餓死、今牧伯更下之於坑、彼眾向耶利米所行者甚不善、或作我主我王斯人將先知耶利米下之於坑彼眾向耶利米所行者甚不善耶利米必餓死於彼因城中絕糧

“ My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have thrown him into a cistern, where he will starve to death when there is no longer any bread in the city.”

“ My king and master, everything these men have done to Jeremiah the prophet is evil. They have thrown him into an empty well. Soon there won’t be any more bread in the city. Then he’ll starve to death.”

“ My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they did to Jeremiah the prophet by casting him into the cistern, and he will die there of hunger, for there is no bread left in the city.”

“ My lord the king,” he said,“ these men have done a very evil thing in putting Jeremiah the prophet into the cistern. He will soon die of hunger, for almost all the bread in the city is gone.”

“ My lord the king, these men have been evil in all they have done to the prophet Jeremiah. They have dropped him into the cistern where he will die from hunger, because there is no more bread in the city.”

“ My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet whom they have thrown into the cistern; and he will die right where he is because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city.”

“ My Lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon, and he is likely to die from hunger in the place where he is. For there is no more bread in the city.”

Then King Zedekiah ordered that Jeremiah be committed to the courtyard of the guardhouse. He also ordered that a loaf of bread be given to him every day from the baker’s street until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah was kept in the courtyard of the guardhouse.Now Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malkijah had heard the things that Jeremiah had been telling the people. They had heard him say,“ The LORD says,‘ Those who stay in this city will die in battle or of starvation or disease. Those who leave the city and surrender to the Babylonians will live. They will escape with their lives.’”They had also heard him say,“ The LORD says,‘ This city will certainly be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon. They will capture it.’”So these officials said to the king,“ This man must be put to death. For he is demoralizing the soldiers who are left in the city as well as all the other people there by these things he is saying. This man is not seeking to help these people but is trying to harm them.”King Zedekiah said to them,“ Very well, you can do what you want with him. For I cannot do anything to stop you.”So the officials took Jeremiah and put him in the cistern of Malkijah, one of the royal princes, that was in the courtyard of the guardhouse. There was no water in the cistern, only mud. So when they lowered Jeremiah into the cistern with ropes he sank in the mud.

By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine in the city was so severe the residents had no food.

Deliver those being taken away to death, and hold back those slipping to the slaughter.If you say,“ But we did not know about this,” does not the one who evaluates hearts consider? Does not the one who guards your life know? Will he not repay each person according to his deeds?

Open your mouth on behalf of those unable to speak, for the legal rights of all the dying.Open your mouth, judge in righteousness, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

because I was terrified of the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I remained silent and would not go outdoors–

For we have been sold– both I and my people– to destruction and to slaughter and to annihilation! If we had simply been sold as male and female slaves, I would have remained silent, for such distress would not have been sufficient for troubling the king.”Then King Ahasuerus responded to Queen Esther,“ Who is this individual? Where is this person to be found who is presumptuous enough to act in this way?”Esther replied,“ The oppressor and enemy is this evil Haman!” Then Haman became terrified in the presence of the king and queen.
