The officials may hear that I have spoken with you and come and demand of you,‘ Tell us what you said to the king; don’t hide anything from us and we won’t kill you. Also, what did the king say to you?’

首领若听见了我与你说话，就来见你，问你说：‘你对王说什么话不要向我们隐瞒，我们就不杀你。王向你说什么话也要告诉我们。’

官长们若听见我跟你说话，到你那里对你说：‘告诉我们，你对王说了什么话，王又向你说了什么；不可向我们隐瞒，否则我们就要杀你。’

官长们若听见我跟你说话，到你那里对你说：‘告诉我们，你对王说了什么话，王又向你说了什么；不可向我们隐瞒，否则我们就要杀你。’

如果有官长知道我曾与你会面，前来以死亡相威胁，逼你说出我们谈话的内容。

浸假牧伯聞王與爾言、來詰爾曰、爾所奏於王、王所語爾者、其言若何、明以告我、毋隱、則我不殺爾。

倘牧伯聞我與爾言、來問爾曰、爾奏王何言、爾其告我、勿隱於我、則我不殺爾、王所語爾者何言、

If the officials hear that I talked with you, and they come to you and say,‘ Tell us what you said to the king and what the king said to you; do not hide it from us or we will kill you,’

Suppose the officials find out that I’ve talked with you. And suppose they come to you and say,‘ Tell us what you said to the king. Tell us what the king said to you. Don’t hide it from us. If you do, we’ll kill you.’

If the officials hear that I have spoken with you and come to you and say to you,‘ Tell us what you said to the king and what the king said to you; hide nothing from us and we will not put you to death,’

My officials may hear that I spoke to you, and they may say,‘ Tell us what you and the king were talking about. If you don’t tell us, we will kill you.’

But if the officials hear that I have talked with you and come to you and say to you,‘ Tell us now what you said to the king and what the king said to you; do not hide it from us and we will not put you to death,’

But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you and say to you,‘ Declare to us now what you have said to the king, and also what the king said to you; do not hide it from us, and we will not put you to death,’

But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king; hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:

The officials then said to the king,“ This man ought to die, because he is weakening the morale of the warriors who remain in this city and of all the people by speaking to them in this way. This man is not pursuing the welfare of this people, but their harm.”King Zedekiah said,“ Here he is; he’s in your hands since the king can’t do anything against you.”So they took Jeremiah and dropped him into the cistern of Malchiah the king’s son, which was in the guard’s courtyard, lowering Jeremiah with ropes. There was no water in the cistern, only mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.

All the officials did come to Jeremiah, and they questioned him. He reported the exact words to them the king had commanded, and they quit speaking with him because the conversation had not been overheard.
