進了羅馬城，保羅蒙准和一個看守他的兵另住在一處。

他們就拿住耶利米，下在哈米勒的兒子瑪基雅的牢獄裏；那牢獄在護衛兵的院中。他們用繩子將耶利米繫下去。牢獄裏沒有水，只有淤泥，耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

打發人去，將耶利米從護衛兵院中提出來，交與沙番的孫子亞希甘的兒子基大利，帶回家去。於是耶利米住在民中。耶利米還囚在護衛兵院中的時候，耶和華的話臨到他說：「你去告訴古實人以伯‧米勒說，萬軍之耶和華－以色列的神如此說：我說降禍不降福的話必臨到這城，到那時必在你面前成就了。耶和華說：到那日我必拯救你，你必不致交在你所怕的人手中。我定要搭救你，你不致倒在刀下，卻要以自己的命為掠物，因你倚靠我。這是耶和華說的。」

於是吩咐百夫長看守保羅，並且寬待他，也不攔阻他的親友來供給他。過了幾天，腓力斯和他夫人－猶太的女子土西拉－一同來到，就叫了保羅來，聽他講論信基督耶穌的道。保羅講論公義、節制，和將來的審判。腓力斯甚覺恐懼，說：「你暫且去吧，等我得便再叫你來。」腓力斯又指望保羅送他銀錢，所以屢次叫他來，和他談論。

王如此說，把這個人下在監裏，使他受苦，吃不飽喝不足，等候我平平安安地回來。」

於是耶利米仍在護衛兵的院中，直到耶路撒冷被攻取的日子。
