進了羅馬城後，保羅獲准在衛兵的看守下自己一個人住。

於是，他們拿住耶利米，用繩子把他縋到王子瑪基雅的蓄水池裡。那池子在護衛兵的院子裡，池中沒有水，只有淤泥。耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

便派人把耶利米從護衛兵的院子提出來，讓沙番的孫子、亞希甘的兒子基大利帶他回家。從此，耶利米就生活在百姓當中。耶利米被監禁在護衛兵院子裡的時候，耶和華對他說：「你去告訴古實人以伯·米勒，以色列的上帝——萬軍之耶和華說，『看啊，我必照我說的使這城遭受災禍，得不到祝福。你必親眼看見這一切發生。』耶和華說，『但那時，我必拯救你，使你不致落在你所懼怕的人手中。我必拯救你，使你保全性命，不致喪身刀下，因為你信靠我。這是耶和華說的。』」

他派百夫長看守保羅，給他一定的自由，也允許親友來供應他的需要。幾天後，腓利斯和他的妻子猶太人土西拉一同來了，召見保羅，聽他講信基督耶穌的事。當保羅講到公義、節制和將來的審判時，腓利斯十分恐懼，說：「你先下去吧，改天有機會，我再叫你來。」腓利斯希望保羅賄賂他，所以經常召他來談話。

告訴他們，『王說，要把這人關在監牢，只給他一些餅和水，直到我平安地回來。』」

耶利米被囚在護衛兵的院子裡，一直到耶路撒冷淪陷。
