西底家十一年四月初九日，城被攻破。耶路撒冷被攻下的時候，巴比倫王的眾官長，尼甲‧沙利薛、三甲‧尼波、撒西金將軍、尼甲‧沙利薛將軍，並巴比倫王其餘的官長都來坐在中門。猶大王西底家和所有士兵看見他們，就在夜間從靠近王的花園、兩城牆中間的門逃跑出城，往亞拉巴逃去。迦勒底的軍隊追趕他們，在耶利哥的平原追上西底家，將他逮住，帶到哈馬地的利比拉、巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒那裏；尼布甲尼撒就判他的罪。在利比拉，巴比倫王在西底家眼前殺了他的兒女；巴比倫王又殺了猶大所有的貴族，並且挖了西底家的眼睛，用銅鏈鎖住他，要帶到巴比倫去。迦勒底人用火焚燒王宮和百姓的房屋，又拆毀耶路撒冷的城牆。

「人必將你的后妃和你的兒女帶到迦勒底人那裏；你也不得脫離他們的手，必被巴比倫王的手捉住，這城也必被火焚燒。」

我必將猶大王西底家和他的眾領袖交在仇敵和尋索其命的人手中，與那暫時離你們而去的巴比倫王軍隊的手中。看哪，我要吩咐他們回到這城，攻打這城，將城攻取，用火焚燒；我也要使猶大的城鎮變為廢墟，無人居住。這是耶和華說的。」

攻城的迦勒底人必來放火焚燒這城和城裏的房屋；人曾在這房頂上向巴力燒香，向別神獻澆酒祭，惹我發怒。
