西底迦執政第十一年四月九日，耶路撒冷淪陷。尼甲·沙利薛、三甲·尼波、撒西金和另一個尼甲·沙利薛等巴比倫王的所有將領都進城坐在中門。猶大王西底迦和所有軍兵見勢不妙，便在夜間穿過御花園，從兩城牆中間的門逃往亞拉巴。但迦勒底的軍隊追上來，在耶利哥的平原擒住西底迦，把他帶到哈馬的利比拉去見巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒，接受審判。巴比倫王在利比拉當著西底迦的面殺了他的眾子和猶大所有的貴族，並且挖去他的雙眼，把他用銅鏈鎖著帶到巴比倫。迦勒底人放火焚燒王宮和民居，拆毀耶路撒冷的城牆。

「你的嬪妃和兒女必被交給迦勒底人，你也逃不掉，必被巴比倫王所擒。這城也要被付之一炬。」

我要把猶大王西底迦及其官員交在想殺他們的敵人手中，交在剛撤軍的巴比倫王手中。看啊，我要吩咐他們回來攻佔這城，將它付之一炬，我要使猶大的城邑荒無人煙。這是耶和華說的。』」

他們必放火焚城，把城中的房屋付之一炬，城中的居民曾在房頂上向巴力燒香、向假神奠酒，惹我發怒。
