But when he reached the Benjamin Gate, the captain of the guard, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, arrested him and said,“ You are deserting to the Babylonians!”

He got as far as the Benjamin Gate. But the captain of the guard arrested him. He said,“ You are going over to the side of the Babylonians!” The captain’s name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah. Shelemiah was the son of Hananiah.

When he was at the Benjamin Gate, a sentry there named Irijah the son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”

But as he was walking through the Benjamin Gate, a sentry arrested him and said,“ You are defecting to the Babylonians!” The sentry making the arrest was Irijah son of Shelemiah, grandson of Hananiah.

But when he was at the Benjamin Gate, an officer of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, and he apprehended the prophet Jeremiah, saying,“ You are defecting to the Chaldeans.”

While he was at the Gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah the son of Hananiah was there; and he arrested Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”

And when he was in the Gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there whose name was Irijah the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”

And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou art falling away to the Chaldeans.

But when he was at the Benjamin Gate, an officer of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, and he apprehended Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”

And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward[ was] there, whose name[ was] Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

But he only got as far as the Benjamin Gate. There an officer in charge of the guards named Irijah, who was the son of Shelemiah and the grandson of Hananiah, stopped him. He seized Jeremiah and said,“ You are deserting to the Babylonians!”

When he was in Benjamin’s gate, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”

古實人以伯米勒、是個做太監的人、他在王宮、聽見人將耶利米下在井裏——那時王在便雅憫門口坐着——

此地全部必四圍延展像原野，從迦巴到臨門、耶路撒冷的南方；但耶路撒冷必屹然高聳，仍居本位，從便雅憫門到第一門之處，到角門，又從哈楠業譙樓到王的酒池，

住在這城裏的、必因刀劍饑荒瘟疫而死；但出去投降那圍困你們、的迦勒底人的、必得活着，來掠得自己的性命。

開始控告他說：『我們查出這個人扭轉我們民族的心，攔阻人納貢銀給該撒，並說自己是上帝所膏立者，是王。』

人們也不能對你證實他們如今所控告我的事。

瑪坦的兒子示法提雅、巴施戶珥的兒子基大利、示利米雅的兒子猶甲、瑪基雅的兒子巴示戶珥、聽見耶利米對眾民所說的話，說：

於是他們教唆人說：『我們曾聽見他說了謗讟摩西和上帝的話。』

我們查出這個人簡直是瘟疫，在普天下眾猶太人中攪動亂事，又是拿撒勒派的一個頭目。連聖殿他也試圖要褻瀆；我們就把他抓住了；

我聽見了許多人的讒誹；四圍盡是恐怖！『告發他！我們要告發他！』我的一切盟友，那些等着瞧我顛沛的說：『或者他被誘騙，我們就能勝過他，而在他身上得報復。』

他們就說：『來吧，我們來設計謀害耶利米；因為祭司有禮節規矩，智慧人有謀略，神言人有話語，都不能斷絕掉。來吧，我們用口舌攻擊他，他的甚麼話、我們都別理它。』

王就吩咐古實人以伯米勒說：『你就此隨手帶着三個人、將神言人耶利米、趁他未死以前、從井裏拉上來。』於是以伯米勒隨手帶了人，進入王宮，到庫房以下，從那裏取了些破布爛衣，用繩子縋下井裏到耶利米那裏。古實人以伯米勒對耶利米說：『你把這些破布爛衣放在繩子上去墊胳肢窩。』耶利米就這樣作。他們便這樣用繩子拉耶利米，從井裏給拖上來。耶利米仍在護衛監的院子裏呆着。西底家王打發了人去帶神言人耶利米到第三出入處、就是在永恆主的殿、去見王。王對耶利米說：『我要問你一件事；你一句都不可向我隱瞞。』耶利米對西底家說：『我若告訴你，你豈不殺死我麼？我若向你出主意，你必不聽我。』西底家就私下向耶利米起誓說：『那造我們性命的永恆主是活的：我指着他來起誓；我一定不殺死你，也不將你交在這些尋索你性命的人手中。』耶利米對西底家說：『永恆主萬軍之上帝以色列之上帝這麼說：你若毅然出去歸降巴比倫王的首領，你的性命就得以活着，這城也不至於被火焚燒，你和你的家就得以活着。

對猶大王西底家我也照這一切話告訴他說：『要把你們的脖子放在巴比倫王的軛下、去服事他和他的人民，以得存活。你和你人民為甚麼硬要由刀劍、饑荒、和瘟疫、去死亡，像永恆主論到那不服事巴比倫王的那種國所說的話呢？

於是首領們對王說：『這個人該受處死；因為他向這城裏剩下的軍兵和眾民說了這樣的話，是叫軍兵的手和眾民的手都軟下來；因為這個人不是謀求這人民得平安，只是謀求他們受災禍罷了。

就下王宮，到祕書的廂房那裏；只見所有的首領都坐那裏：有祕書以利沙瑪、示瑪雅的兒子第萊雅、亞革博的兒子以利拿單、沙番的兒子基瑪利雅、哈拿尼雅的兒子西底家、和所有其餘的首領。

現在呢、是我將這些都交給我僕人巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒的手；田野間的走獸呢、我也給他、供他使用。

因為萬軍之永恆主以色列之上帝這麼說：我已將鐵的軛加在這些國的脖子上，使他們服事巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒，他們總要服事他，連田野間的走獸、我也給了他。」』

伯特利的祭司亞瑪謝打發人去見以色列王耶羅波安說：『阿摩司在以色列家中圖謀背叛了你；他所說的一切話、這國擔當不起。

歷經光榮與羞辱、惡名與美名；似乎是迷惑人者，卻是真誠的；
