但有一個法利賽人，名叫迦瑪列，是眾百姓所敬重的律法教師，他在議會中站起來，吩咐人把使徒暫且帶到外面去，然後對眾人說：「以色列人哪，對於這些人，你們應當小心怎樣處理。從前杜達出現，自命不凡，附從他的人數約有四百；他被殺後，附從他的人全都散了，歸於無有。此後，登記戶籍的時候，又有加利利的猶大出現，引誘百姓跟從他，他也滅亡，附從他的人也都四散了。現在，我勸你們不要管這些人，任憑他們吧！他們所謀所為若是出於人，必要敗壞；若是出於上帝，你們就不能敗壞他們，恐怕你們倒是攻擊上帝了。」議會的人被他說服了，

呂便又對他們說：「不可流他的血，可以把他丟在這曠野的坑裏，不可下手害他。」呂便要救他脫離他們的手，把他還給他父親。

就下到王宮，進入書記的房間。看哪，所有的官長都坐在那裏，包括以利沙瑪文士、示瑪雅的兒子第萊雅、亞革波的兒子以利拿單、沙番的兒子基瑪利雅、哈拿尼雅的兒子西底家和其餘的官長。

約雅敬王差亞革波的兒子以利拿單，帶領幾個人前往埃及。

猶大對他的兄弟們說：「我們殺我們的弟弟，遮掩他的血有甚麼好處呢？來，我們把他賣給以實瑪利人，不要下手害他，因為他是我們的弟弟，我們的骨肉。」他的兄弟們就聽從了他。那時，有些米甸的商人從那裏經過，就把約瑟從坑裏拉上來。他們以二十塊銀子把約瑟賣給以實瑪利人，他們就把約瑟帶到埃及去了。

說：「我出賣了無辜人的血有罪了。」他們說：「那跟我們有甚麼相干？你自己承當吧！」

彼拉多見說也無濟於事，反要生亂，就拿水在眾人面前洗手，說：「流這人的血，罪不在我，你們承當吧。」眾人都回答：「他的血歸到我們和我們的子孫身上！」

你們當聽，當側耳而聽；不可驕傲，因為耶和華已經吩咐了。當耶和華－你們的上帝尚未使黑暗來臨，在昏暗的山上你們的腳未絆跌以前，要將榮耀歸給他。你們盼望光明，他卻使光明變為死蔭，成為幽暗。你們若不聽這話，我的心必因你們的驕傲暗自哭泣；我的眼必痛哭流淚，因為耶和華的羊羣被擄去了。

惡人臉無羞恥；正直人行事堅定。
