Also you must never build houses, sow seed or plant vineyards; you must never have any of these things, but must always live in tents. Then you will live a long time in the land where you are nomads.’

當孝敬父母，使你得福，在世長壽。這是第一條帶應許的誡命。

兩個孩子漸漸長大，以掃善於打獵，常在田野；雅各為人安靜，常住在帳棚裏。

「當孝敬父母，使你的日子在耶和華－你上帝所賜你的地上得以長久。

不要醉酒，酒能使人放蕩；要被聖靈充滿。

因着信，他就在所應許之地作客，好像在異鄉，居住在帳棚裏，與蒙同一個應許的以撒和雅各一樣。因為他等候着那座有根基的城，就是上帝所設計和建造的。因着信，撒拉自己已過了生育的年齡還能懷孕，因為她認為應許她的那位是可信的；所以，從一個彷彿已死的人竟生出子孫，如同天上的星那樣眾多，海邊的沙那樣無數。這些人都是存着信心死的，並沒有得着所應許的，卻從遠處觀望，且歡喜迎接。他們承認自己在地上是客旅，是寄居的。

親愛的，你們是客旅，是寄居的，我勸你們要禁戒肉體的情慾；這情慾是與靈魂爭戰的。

你們要住在棚裏七日；凡以色列家出生的人都要住在棚裏，好叫你們世世代代知道，我領以色列人出埃及地的時候，曾使他們住在棚裏。我是耶和華－你們的上帝。」

但住在帳棚裏，聽從並遵行我們祖先約拿達所吩咐我們的一切話。

他們發現律法書上寫着，耶和華藉摩西吩咐以色列人要在七月的節期中住在棚裏，並要在各城和耶路撒冷傳揚宣告說：「你們當出去，上山，把橄欖樹、野橄欖樹、番石榴樹、棕樹和各樣茂密樹的枝子取來，照着所寫的搭棚。」於是百姓出去，取了樹枝來，各人在自己的房頂上、院子裏、上帝殿的院內、水門的廣場和以法蓮門的廣場搭棚。
