你們也不可建造房屋，不可撒種，不可栽種或擁有葡萄園；你們一生的日子只可住帳棚，使你們在寄居的地上活得長久。’

Also you must never build houses, sow seed or plant vineyards; you must never have any of these things, but must always live in tents. Then you will live a long time in the land where you are nomads.’

“要孝敬父母，使你得福，在世長壽。”這是第一條帶著應許的誡命。

兩個孩子漸漸長大；以掃善於打獵，喜歡生活在田野；雅各為人安靜，常常住在帳棚裡。

“要孝敬父母，使你在耶和華你的神賜給你的地上得享長壽。

不要醉酒，醉酒能使人放蕩亂性，卻要讓聖靈充滿。

因著信，他在應許之地寄居，好像是在異鄉，與承受同樣應許的以撒、雅各一樣住在帳棚裡。因為他等待那座有根基的城，就是神所設計所建造的。因著信，甚至撒拉，她雖然過了生育的年齡，還是能夠懷孕，因為她認為那應許她的是信實的。所以從一個好像已死的人，竟然生出許多子孫來，仿佛天上的星那麼眾多，海邊的沙那麼無數。這些人都是存著信心死了的，還沒有得著所應許的，只不過是從遠處看見，就表示歡迎，又承認他們在世上是異鄉人，是客旅。

親愛的，我勸你們作客旅和寄居的人，要禁戒肉體的私慾，這私慾是與靈魂爭戰的。

你們要住在棚裡七天；以色列所有的本地人都要住在棚裡，好叫你們世世代代知道，我領以色列人出埃及地的時候，曾經使他們住在棚裡；我是耶和華你們的神。”

我們只住帳棚；我們聽從祖先約拿達吩咐我們的一切話，並且照著去行。

他們發現律法上記載，耶和華曾藉著摩西吩咐以色列人，要在七月的節期中，住在棚裡，並且要在自己的城裡和在耶路撒冷宣揚布告說：“你們要上到山上，把橄欖樹枝、油木樹枝、番石榴枝、棕樹枝和樹葉繁茂大樹的枝子帶回來，照著律法所寫的搭棚。”於是眾民出去，把樹枝帶回來，各人在自己的房頂上，在院子裡，神的院中，水門的廣場，或是在以法蓮門的廣場搭棚。
