‘ Jehonadab son of Rekab ordered his descendants not to drink wine and this command has been kept. To this day they do not drink wine, because they obey their forefather’s command. But I have spoken to you again and again, yet you have not obeyed me.

“ Jehonadab, the son of Rekab, ordered his children not to drink wine. And they have kept his command. To this day they do not drink wine. They obey the command Jehonadab gave their people long ago. But I have spoken to you again and again. In spite of that, you have not obeyed me.

The command that Jonadab the son of Rechab gave to his sons, to drink no wine, has been kept, and they drink none to this day, for they have obeyed their father’s command. I have spoken to you persistently, but you have not listened to me.

The Recabites do not drink wine to this day because their ancestor Jehonadab told them not to. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you refuse to obey me.

At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:“ How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you,when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”

But they didn’t listen or turn their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.Yet they didn’t listen to me or incline their ear, but made their neck stiff. They did worse than their fathers.

Why, when I came, was there no one? When I called, why was there no one to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it can’t redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea. I make the rivers a wilderness. Their fish stink because there is no water, and die of thirst.

From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, these twenty- three years, Yahweh’s word has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; but you have not listened.Yahweh has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them( but you have not listened or inclined your ear to hear),

For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying,“ Obey my voice.”

Yahweh, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place;but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until Yahweh’s wrath arose against his people, until there was no remedy.

“ Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, cast your law behind their back, killed your prophets that testified against them to turn them again to you, and they committed awful blasphemies.

because they have not listened to my words,” says Yahweh,“ with which I sent to them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear,” says Yahweh.

Yet many years you put up with them, and testified against them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not listen. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

They have turned their backs to me, and not their faces. Although I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.
