‘ Jehonadab son of Rekab ordered his descendants not to drink wine and this command has been kept. To this day they do not drink wine, because they obey their forefather’s command. But I have spoken to you again and again, yet you have not obeyed me.

The command that Jonadab the son of Rechab gave to his sons, to drink no wine, has been kept, and they drink none to this day, for they have obeyed their father’s command. I have spoken to you persistently, but you have not listened to me.

The Recabites do not drink wine to this day because their ancestor Jehonadab told them not to. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you refuse to obey me.

For scorners delight in their scorning, And fools hate knowledge.Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke,I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes,When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.“ Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord,They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke.Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies.For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them;But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.”

Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but followed the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward.Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.Yet they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers.

Why, when I came, was there no man? Why, when I called, was there none to answer? Is My hand shortened at all that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Indeed with My rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness; Their fish stink because there is no water, And die of thirst.

“ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, this is the twenty-third year in which the word of the Lord has come to me; and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, but you have not listened.And the Lord has sent to you all His servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear.

For I earnestly exhorted your fathers in the day I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, until this day, rising early and exhorting, saying,“ Obey My voice.”

because they have not heeded My words, says the Lord, which I sent to them by My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; neither would you heed, says the Lord.

Yet for many years You had patience with them, And testified against them by Your Spirit in Your prophets. Yet they would not listen; Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

And they have turned to Me the back, and not the face; though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.
