‘ Jehonadab son of Rekab ordered his descendants not to drink wine and this command has been kept. To this day they do not drink wine, because they obey their forefather’s command. But I have spoken to you again and again, yet you have not obeyed me.

The command that Jonadab the son of Rechab gave to his sons, to drink no wine, has been kept, and they drink none to this day, for they have obeyed their father’s command. I have spoken to you persistently, but you have not listened to me.

The Recabites do not drink wine to this day because their ancestor Jehonadab told them not to. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you refuse to obey me.

智慧在大街上高喊，在廣場上揚聲，在熱鬧的市集宣告，在城門口演說：「你們愚昧人喜愛愚昧，嘲諷者以嘲弄為樂，無知者厭惡知識，要到什麼時候呢？你們若因我的責備而回轉，我就向你們顯明我的旨意，叫你們明白我的話語。我呼喚你們，你們卻充耳不聞；我向你們招手，你們卻視若無睹。你們漠視我的勸誡，不接受我的責備。因此，你們遭遇災難時，我必發笑；驚恐臨到你們時，我必嗤笑——那時，恐懼如風暴襲擊你們，災難如旋風臨到你們，憂愁和苦難吞沒你們。你們呼求我，我也不回答；你們懇切地尋找我，卻找不到。因為你們厭惡知識，不願意敬畏耶和華，不接受我的勸誡，又藐視我的責備。所以，你們必自食其果，因自己的惡謀而吃盡苦頭。愚昧人背離正道，自招滅亡；愚頑人逍遙自在，毀掉自己。然而，那聽從我的必安然居住，得享安寧，不怕災禍。」

他們卻掩耳不聽，一意孤行，任意行惡，越來越壞。從你們的祖先離開埃及那天起，一直到今天，我日復一日地差遣我的僕人——眾先知到你們那裡，但你們掩耳不聽，頑固不化，比你們的祖先更邪惡。

為什麼我來的時候一個人也不在？為什麼我呼喚的時候沒有人回答？是我的臂膀太短不能救贖你們嗎？是我沒有能力拯救你們嗎？看啊，我斥責一聲，海就乾了；我使江河變為曠野，魚類因無水而乾死，發出腥臭。

「從猶大王亞們的兒子約西亞執政第十三年，到今天已有二十三年。在這期間，我不斷把耶和華對我說的話傳給你們，你們卻充耳不聞。耶和華屢次差遣祂的僕人——眾先知警告你們，你們卻充耳不聞，毫不理會。

因為自從我把你們祖先從埃及領出來的那天起，一直到今天，我一再勸誡他們要聽從我的話。

他們祖先的上帝耶和華因為憐愛祂的子民和祂的居所，就不斷派使者來勸告他們。他們卻嘲弄耶和華上帝的使者，藐視祂的話，嘲笑祂的先知，以致祂的憤怒臨到祂的子民身上，無可挽救。

「然而，他們不順從你，背叛你，把你的律法拋在背後，又殺掉勸誡他們歸向你的眾先知，大大褻瀆了你。

這都是因為他們不聽我的話。這是耶和華說的。我曾屢次差遣我的僕人——眾先知去警告他們，他們卻不肯聽。』這是耶和華說的。

你多年來容忍他們，差遣你的靈藉著你的眾先知警告他們，但他們依然不肯聽從，於是你把他們交在列邦手中。

他們不是面向我而是背對我，我不厭其煩地教導他們，他們卻不肯聽，不受教。
