罗波安住在耶路撒冷，在犹大为防御修筑城镇，他修筑伯利恒、以坦、提哥亚、伯‧夙、梭哥、亚杜兰、迦特、玛利沙、西弗、亚多莱音、拉吉、亚西加、琐拉、亚雅仑、希伯仑。这都是犹大和便雅悯的坚固城。

希西家王十四年，亚述王西拿基立上来攻击犹大的一切坚固的城，将城攻取。犹大王希西家派人到拉吉，亚述王那里，说：“我错了，求你撤退离开我；凡你罚我的，我必承当。”于是亚述王罚犹大王希西家三百他连得银子，三十他连得金子。

你们要在犹大传扬，在耶路撒冷宣告，说：“当在国中吹角，高声呼叫说：‘你们当聚集！我们好进入坚固城！’

巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒率领他的全军和地上他管辖的各国各邦，攻打耶路撒冷和耶路撒冷所有的城镇。那时，耶和华的话临到耶利米，说：

耶和华使他们在以色列人面前溃乱。约书亚在基遍大大击杀他们，在伯‧和仑的上坡路上追赶他们，击杀他们，直到亚西加和玛基大。他们在以色列人面前逃跑。正在伯‧和仑下坡的时候，耶和华从天上降下大冰雹在他们身上，直降到亚西加，打死他们。被冰雹打死的，比以色列人用刀杀死的还多。

耶末王一人，拉吉王一人，

拉吉、波斯加、伊矶伦、

又在犹大山区建造城镇，在树林中建筑营寨和瞭望楼。

拉吉的居民哪，要用快马套车；锡安的罪由你而起，以色列的罪过在你那里显出。

他们必在你的各城围困你，直到你在全地所倚靠、高大坚固的城墙都倒塌。他们必在耶和华—你神所赐给你全地的各城围困你。

那时，犹大城镇的人和耶路撒冷的居民要哀求他们烧香所供奉的神明；只是遭难的时候，这些神明一点也不能拯救他们。

我们为何静坐不动呢？我们当聚集，进入坚固城，在那里静默不言；因为耶和华—我们的神使我们静默不言，又将苦水给我们喝，都因我们得罪了耶和华。

亚述将军听见亚述王已拔营离开拉吉，就启程返回，正遇见亚述王去攻打立拿。
