while the army of the king of Babylon was fighting against Jerusalem and the other cities of Judah that were still holding out— Lachish and Azekah. These were the only fortified cities left in Judah.

因此耶路撒冷王亞多尼洗德就打發人去見希伯崙王何咸、耶末王毘蘭、拉吉王雅非亞、和伊磯倫王底璧、說：

羅波安住在耶路撒冷；他在猶大修造了城邑做堡障。他修造了伯利恆、以坦、提哥亞、伯夙、稜哥、亞杜蘭、迦特、瑪利沙、西弗、亞多萊音、拉吉、亞西加、瑣拉、亞雅崙、希伯崙：這些都是猶大和便雅憫的堡障城。

希西家王十四年、亞述王西拿基立上來攻擊猶大的一切堡壘城，將城奪取。猶大王希西家差遣人到拉吉去見亞述王說：『我有罪了；求你離開我而回去；凡你所加於我的處罰、我都要承當。』於是亞述王勒令猶大王希西家要納銀子三百擔，金子三十擔。

你們要在猶大宣告，要在耶路撒冷公布說：『要在境內吹號角，高聲呼叫說：「你們要聚集攏來，我們好進入有堡壘的城！」

巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒率領了他的全軍、以及他手下所統治的地上各國、各族之民、來攻擊耶路撒冷和屬耶路撒冷所有的城市；那時有出於永恆主而傳與耶利米的話說：

永恆主使他們在以色列人面前潰亂；約書亞在基遍大大擊敗他們，沿伯和崙的上坡路向追趕他們，擊殺了他們、直到亞西加和瑪基大。他們從以色列人面前逃跑，正在伯和崙下坡的時候，永恆主從天上降了大冰石在他們身上，直降到亞西加，打死他們；那死於冰雹石的、比以色列人用刀殺死的還多。

一個是耶末王，一個是拉吉王，

拉吉、波斯加、伊磯倫、

他在猶大山地建造了城市，又在樹林高地中建造碉堡和譙樓。

拉吉的居民哪，用快馬套車哦；（這是錫安子民犯罪的起點）因為以色列的過犯都發現在你那裏。

他必將你圍困在你各城內，直到你所倚靠高大堅固的城牆在你遍地都被攻下；他必將你圍困在你各城內、在永恆主你的上帝所賜給你的遍地。

那時猶大城市的人和耶路撒冷的居民必向他們所燻祭的神哀呼，但在他們遭難時，這些神卻絲毫也不能拯救他們。

我們為甚麼靜坐不動呢？聚集攏來哦，我們好進入有堡壘的城，在那裏寂滅掉；因為永恆主我們的上帝命定我們寂滅，將毒苦水給我們喝，因為我們犯罪得罪了永恆主。

參謀長回去，正遇見亞述王在攻擊立拿；原來他早就聽見亞述王已拔營離開拉吉。
