所以耶路撒冷王亚多尼洗德打发人去见希伯仑王何咸、耶末王毗兰、拉吉王雅非亚，和伊矶伦王底璧，说：

罗波安住在耶路撒冷，在犹大地修筑城邑，为保障修筑伯利恒、以坦、提哥亚、伯夙、梭哥、亚杜兰、迦特、玛利沙、西弗、亚多莱音、拉吉、亚西加、琐拉、亚雅仑、希伯仑。这都是犹大和便雅悯的坚固城。

希西家王十四年，亚述王西拿基立上来攻击犹大的一切坚固城，将城攻取。犹大王希西家差人往拉吉去见亚述王，说：“我有罪了，求你离开我；凡你罚我的，我必承当。”于是亚述王罚犹大王希西家银子三百他连得，金子三十他连得。

“你们当传扬在犹大，宣告在耶路撒冷说：‘你们当在国中吹角，高声呼叫说：你们当聚集！我们好进入坚固城！’

巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒率领他的全军和地上属他的各国各邦，攻打耶路撒冷和属耶路撒冷所有的城邑。那时，耶和华的话临到耶利米说：

耶和华使他们在以色列人面前溃乱。约书亚在基遍大大地杀败他们，追赶他们，在伯和仑的上坡路击杀他们，直到亚西加和玛基大。他们在以色列人面前逃跑，正在伯和仑下坡的时候，耶和华从天上降大冰雹在他们身上，直降到亚西加，打死他们。被冰雹打死的，比以色列人用刀杀死的还多。

一个是耶末王，一个是拉吉王，

拉吉、波斯加、伊矶伦、

又在犹大山地建造城邑，在树林中建筑营寨和高楼。

拉吉的居民哪，要用快马套车；锡安民的罪由你而起；以色列人的罪过在你那里显出。

他们必将你困在你各城里，直到你所倚靠、高大坚固的城墙都被攻塌。他们必将你困在耶和华你神所赐你遍地的各城里。

那时，犹大城邑的人和耶路撒冷的居民要去哀求他们烧香所供奉的神；只是遭难的时候，这些神毫不拯救他们。

我们为何静坐不动呢？我们当聚集，进入坚固城，在那里静默不言；因为耶和华我们的神使我们静默不言，又将苦胆水给我们喝，都因我们得罪了耶和华。

拉伯沙基回去，正遇见亚述王攻打立拿，原来他早听见亚述王拔营离开拉吉。
