因此，耶路撒冷王亞多尼．洗德派人到希伯崙王何咸、耶末王毗蘭、拉吉王雅非亞和伊磯倫王底璧那裡去，對他們說：

羅波安住在耶路撒冷，他在猶大建造了多座設防城。他修築了伯利恆、以坦、提哥亞、伯．夙、梭哥、亞杜蘭、迦特、瑪利沙、西弗、亞多萊音、拉吉、亞西加、瑣拉、亞雅崙、希伯崙；這些都是猶大和便雅憫境內的設防城。

希西家王在位第十四年，亞述王西拿基立上來攻擊猶大所有的設防城，佔據了它們。猶大王希西家派人往拉吉去見亞述王說：“我有罪了，請你離我回去吧，你們加於我的處分，我必承當。”於是亞述王罰了猶大王希西家九千公斤銀子和九百公斤金子。

“你們應當在猶大宣告，在耶路撒冷傳揚，說：‘要在境內吹號。’高聲呼叫，說：‘你們要集合起來，我們要進到堅固的城裡去！’

巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒率領他的全軍，以及他統治的地上各國各族，攻打耶路撒冷和周圍一切城鎮的時候，從耶和華那裡有話臨到耶利米，說：

耶和華使他們在以色列人面前潰亂，約書亞在基遍大大地擊殺他們，沿著伯．和崙的上坡路追趕他們，擊打他們，直到亞西加和瑪基大。他們從以色列人面前逃跑，正在下伯．和崙斜坡的時候，耶和華從天上降大冰雹在他們身上，一直到亞西加，打死他們；被冰雹打死的，比以色列人用刀殺死的還多。

一個是耶末王，一個是拉吉王，

拉吉、波斯加、伊磯倫、

他在猶大山地建造城市，又在樹林中建造一些營寨和瞭望樓。

拉吉的居民哪！要用快馬套車，這就是錫安子民（“子民”原文作“女子”）罪惡的開端；因為以色列的過犯，都在你那裡找到了。

他們必把你圍困在你的各城裡，直到在你的全境內你所倚靠高大和堅固的城牆都被攻陷；他們必把你圍困在耶和華你的神賜給你的全地的各城裡。

那時，猶大各城的人和耶路撒冷的居民，都必去哀求他們燒香供奉的神，只是在他們遭難的時候，這些神卻完全不能拯救他們。

我們為甚麼坐著不動呢？你們要集合起來，我們要進入堅固的城裡去，在那裡滅亡吧！因為耶和華我們的神要我們滅亡，又把毒水給我們喝，因我們得罪了耶和華。

拉伯沙基回去，發覺亞述王正在攻打立拿，因為他曾聽說亞述王已拔營離開拉吉。
