耶路撒冷王亞多尼·洗德便派遣使者去見希伯崙王何咸、耶末王毗蘭、拉吉王雅非亞和伊磯倫王底璧，說：

羅波安住在耶路撒冷，他在猶大修築城池以作防禦。他修築的城池有伯利恆、以坦、提哥亞、伯·夙、梭哥、亞杜蘭、迦特、瑪利沙、西弗、亞多萊音、拉吉、亞西加、瑣拉、亞雅崙、希伯崙，這些都是猶大和便雅憫的堅城。

希西迦王執政第十四年，亞述王西拿基立起兵攻取了猶大所有的堅城。希西迦王差遣使者去拉吉見亞述王說：「我知罪了，求你退兵！我願意滿足你的任何要求。」亞述王向希西迦索要十噸銀子和一噸金子。

那時，猶大各城和耶路撒冷的居民必去呼求他們燒香供奉的神明，卻得不到任何幫助。

他們說：「我們為什麼還坐在這裡？大家一起進入堅城，死在那裡吧！我們的上帝耶和華要毀滅我們，給我們毒藥喝，因為我們得罪了祂。

亞述的將軍聽說亞述王已離開拉吉，便回去見王，發現王在攻打立拿。
