Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and all his armies were fighting against Jerusalem. They were also fighting against all the towns around it. All the kingdoms and nations Nebuchadnezzar ruled over were helping him. At that time a message from the Lord came to Jeremiah. The Lord said,

The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,

The LORD spoke to Jeremiah while King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon was attacking Jerusalem and the towns around it with a large army. This army consisted of troops from his own army and from the kingdoms and peoples of the lands under his dominion.

The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, with all his army, all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem and against all its cities, saying:

西底迦执政第九年十月十日，巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒率领全军攻打耶路撒冷，在城外安营，修筑围城的高台。城一直被围困到西底迦执政第十一年。那年四月九日，城里饥荒非常严重，百姓无粮可吃。城被攻破，城里的所有士兵便在夜间穿过御花园，从两城墙中间的门逃往亚拉巴。当时迦勒底人仍四面包围着城。迦勒底军队追赶西底迦，在耶利哥平原追上了他，他的军队都四散而逃。迦勒底人擒住西底迦，把他押到利比拉见巴比伦王，在那里审判他。巴比伦王在西底迦面前杀了他的众子，又剜去他的双眼，把他用铜链锁着押往巴比伦。巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒执政第十九年五月七日，他的臣仆——护卫长尼布撒拉旦来到耶路撒冷，放火焚烧耶和华的殿、王宫及城内所有的房屋。他烧毁了所有重要建筑。

尼布甲尼撒王传谕天下各族、各邦、各语种的人：“愿你们大享平安！

我伸出大能的臂膀创造了大地、地上的人类和动物，我想把大地赐给谁就赐给谁。现在，我要把你们的国家交给我的仆人巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒，连田野的走兽也要归他管辖。各国都要臣服于他和他的子孙，直到他的国家灭亡。那时，许多国家和强大的君王必奴役他。

犹大王西底迦执政第九年十月，巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒率领全军包围耶路撒冷。西底迦执政第十一年四月九日，耶路撒冷沦陷。尼甲·沙利薛、三甲·尼波、撒西金和另一个尼甲·沙利薛等巴比伦王的所有将领都进城坐在中门。

那时，巴比伦王的军队正攻打耶路撒冷以及犹大剩下的两座坚城——拉吉和亚西加。

他做他的上帝耶和华视为恶的事，耶利米先知向他传讲耶和华的话，他仍不肯在耶利米面前谦卑下来。尼布甲尼撒曾让他奉上帝的名起誓，他却背叛了尼布甲尼撒。他顽固不化，不肯归向以色列的上帝耶和华。所有祭司长和民众也都仿效外族人的一切可憎行径，犯了大罪，玷污了耶和华在耶路撒冷使之圣洁的殿。他们祖先的上帝耶和华因为怜爱祂的子民和祂的居所，就不断派使者来劝告他们。他们却嘲弄耶和华上帝的使者，藐视祂的话，嘲笑祂的先知，以致祂的愤怒临到祂的子民身上，无可挽救。耶和华使迦勒底人的王起兵攻打他们，在他们的圣殿里用刀击杀他们的壮丁，毫不怜悯少男少女、老人和年高者。耶和华把他们全部交在他的手中。

王啊，这苍劲有力的树就是你，你的威名高达穹苍，你的权柄延至地极。

因为他有上帝所赐的大权，各族、各邦、各语种的人都在他面前战抖，充满恐惧。他操生杀大权，可随意擢升、罢黜。
