Nebuchadnezzar will take Zedekiah to Babylon. Zedekiah will remain there until I deal with him,” announces the Lord.“ Suppose you fight against the armies of Babylon. If you do, you will not succeed.” ’ ”

But the king rebelled against him by sending his envoys to Egypt to get horses and a large army. Will he succeed? Will he who does such things escape? Will he break the treaty and yet escape?

‘ They will be taken to Babylon and there they will remain until the day I come for them,’ declares the Lord.‘ Then I will bring them back and restore them to this place.’”

Then he put out Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him with bronze shackles to take him to Babylon.

“ Say to them,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Will it thrive? Will it not be uprooted and stripped of its fruit so that it withers? All its new growth will wither. It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it up by the roots.It has been planted, but will it thrive? Will it not wither completely when the east wind strikes it— wither away in the plot where it grew?’”

in the fight with the Babylonians:‘ They will be filled with the dead bodies of the people I will slay in my anger and wrath. I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness.

You will also leave that place with your hands on your head, for the Lord has rejected those you trust; you will not be helped by them.

“‘ Yet hear the Lord’s promise to you, Zedekiah king of Judah. This is what the Lord says concerning you: You will not die by the sword;you will die peacefully. As people made a funeral fire in honor of your predecessors, the kings who ruled before you, so they will make a fire in your honor and lament,“ Alas, master!” I myself make this promise, declares the Lord.’”

God is with us; he is our leader. His priests with their trumpets will sound the battle cry against you. People of Israel, do not fight against the Lord, the God of your ancestors, for you will not succeed.”

I will spread my net for him, and he will be caught in my snare; I will bring him to Babylonia, the land of the Chaldeans, but he will not see it, and there he will die.

Even if you were to defeat the entire Babylonian army that is attacking you and only wounded men were left in their tents, they would come out and burn this city down.”

Then the Spirit of God came on Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said,“ This is what God says:‘ Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands? You will not prosper. Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken you.’”

‘ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I am about to turn against you the weapons of war that are in your hands, which you are using to fight the king of Babylon and the Babylonians who are outside the wall besieging you. And I will gather them inside this city.I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and a mighty arm in furious anger and in great wrath.

There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.

But Moses said,“ Why are you disobeying the Lord’s command? This will not succeed!
