From the day it was built until now, this city has so aroused my anger and wrath that I must remove it from my sight.

This will happen because the people of this city have aroused my anger and my wrath since the time they built it until now. They have made me so angry that I am determined to remove it from my sight.

And the Lord said,“ I will also remove Judah from My sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said,‘ My name shall be there.’”

Surely at the commandment of the Lord this came upon Judah, to remove them from His sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done,and also because of the innocent blood that he had shed; for he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, which the Lord would not pardon.

He also built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said,“ In Jerusalem I will put My name.”And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.Also he made his son pass through the fire, practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft, and consulted spiritists and mediums. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.He even set a carved image of Asherah that he had made, in the house of which the Lord had said to David and to Solomon his son,“ In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever;

For they prophesy a lie to you, to remove you far from your land; and I will drive you out, and you will perish.

For thus has the Lord of hosts said:“ Cut down trees, And build a mound against Jerusalem. This is the city to be punished. She is full of oppression in her midst.As a fountain wells up with water, So she wells up with her wickedness. Violence and plundering are heard in her. Before Me continually are grief and wounds.

Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides his sin by which he made Judah sin, in doing evil in the sight of the Lord.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

Shall I not punish them for these things?” says the Lord.“ And shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?“ Go up on her walls and destroy, But do not make a complete end. Take away her branches, For they are not the LORD’s.For the house of Israel and the house of Judah Have dealt very treacherously with Me,” says the Lord.

Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon.And he did likewise for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

Also I have seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: They commit adultery and walk in lies; They also strengthen the hands of evildoers, So that no one turns back from his wickedness. All of them are like Sodom to Me, And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.“ Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets:‘ Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, And make them drink the water of gall; For from the prophets of Jerusalem Profaneness has gone out into all the land.’”

Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and crushed it to powder, and burned the wooden image.

Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem.“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!

“ Now, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Yes, show her all her abominations!Then say,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ The city sheds blood in her own midst, that her time may come; and she makes idols within herself to defile herself.You have become guilty by the blood which you have shed, and have defiled yourself with the idols which you have made. You have caused your days to draw near, and have come to the end of your years; therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mockery to all countries.Those near and those far from you will mock you as infamous and full of tumult.“ Look, the princes of Israel: each one has used his power to shed blood in you.In you they have made light of father and mother; in your midst they have oppressed the stranger; in you they have mistreated the fatherless and the widow.You have despised My holy things and profaned My Sabbaths.In you are men who slander to cause bloodshed; in you are those who eat on the mountains; in your midst they commit lewdness.In you men uncover their fathers’ nakedness; in you they violate women who are set apart during their impurity.One commits abomination with his neighbor’s wife; another lewdly defiles his daughter-in-law; and another in you violates his sister, his father’s daughter.In you they take bribes to shed blood; you take usury and increase; you have made profit from your neighbors by extortion, and have forgotten Me,” says the Lord GOD.“ Behold, therefore, I beat My fists at the dishonest profit which you have made, and at the bloodshed which has been in your midst.Can your heart endure, or can your hands remain strong, in the days when I shall deal with you? I, the Lord, have spoken, and will do it.I will scatter you among the nations, disperse you throughout the countries, and remove your filthiness completely from you.You shall defile yourself in the sight of the nations; then you shall know that I am the Lord.”’”The word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me; they are all bronze, tin, iron, and lead, in the midst of a furnace; they have become dross from silver.Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:‘ Because you have all become dross, therefore behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.As men gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the midst of a furnace, to blow fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you.Yes, I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in its midst.As silver is melted in the midst of a furnace, so shall you be melted in its midst; then you shall know that I, the Lord, have poured out My fury on you.’”

“ Thus says the Lord:‘ Behold, I will bring calamity on this place and on its inhabitants— all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read—because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath shall be aroused against this place and shall not be quenched.’”’

Jerusalem has sinned gravely, Therefore she has become vile. All who honored her despise her Because they have seen her nakedness; Yes, she sighs and turns away.
